(12,611 posts)Just like SpaceX, Musk is a figure head... nothing more.
Spacex and Tesla rock.

(65,717 posts)...then the title of your OO makes no sense.
It certainly implies that Musk has something to do with the vehicle.
Is he a visionary we shouldn't slag or just a figurehead? It can't be both.

(12,611 posts)No matter what one may think of Musk... and most see him as a villain...
That doesn't diminish the accomplishments of SpaceX or Tesla.
Musk is the Carnival barker and shouldn't take away from the talent and skill of the high wire walker or the clowns.

Musk is a world class asshole regardless of how he has invested his fortune.

(7,582 posts)The sheet metal panels drove the wedgelike design, so the durability came at a severe cost. He supposedly has over a million pre-orders, so that could put it in the black regardless. I look forward to seeing one on the highway.

(4,602 posts)to put on a show. Was that 2.6 0-60 with the trailer/Porsche? I'm guessing not as the Porsche was very close and it won't do that.
Musk and vehicle aesthetics aside, the Cybertruck IMO is very innovative and intriguing. I'm predicting it will be a great success or complete bust with nothing much in between.

(12,611 posts)They will sell well for the crowd who wants to be noticed. You probably won't see CyberTruck gardener trucks or plumbing trucks.
Looks like they raced a garden variety 911, not an S model... but that's STILL a 12 second car.

The car, by the way, is a piece of shit.

(2,433 posts)The 911 would smoke that truck on any non straight road, which is to say most of them.
And drag racing is boring...

(167 posts)Correct me if I am wrong. My understanding is that electric motors generate maximum torque at the git-go (which is why railroad locomotives are diesel-electric). So sure, CT excels over the 911 at starting-gate acceleration.
In the real world, high acceleration is only a small part of what we ask of our vehicles. Useful (but not essential) when merging onto a freeway, or rapid avoidance of an imminent potential collision.
Fair enough to demonstrate one's best assets, but ultimately not very important compared to the other trade-offs between the two motive technologies.

(33,788 posts)All electric cars have faster acceleration than gas engines.
Let's see how a Tesla does against a Porsche EV.
But a bigger issue is these fast accelerations are dangerous and should be tamped down. Regular drivers can't control it.
Disaffected
(4,602 posts)Not the case and there is no reason it would be. Most EVs these days will out accelerate most GVs (gasoline vehicles), especially off the line, but that's just the way they are built (it's a great selling point).
How a Tesla would do against a Porsche EV would depend on the Tesla model. For instance, the Tesla S Plaid does 0-60 in 2.3 which I believe beats the hottest Porsche EV by about 1/2 second.
Agreed though that these crazy acceleration capabilities are dangerous in the wrong hands.

Obviously the R8 would have over taken on top end on a longer race but wow
