Be careful what you wish for.

First up, I consider Trump to be such an existential threat to American democracy that I am loathe to gamble on TFG losing the 2024 Presidential election. Even a 2% chance is too much. Whether he croaks, or is disqualified, anything that completely closes the book on his sorry ass is exceptionally welcome news.

Nikki Haley. If SCOTUS disqualifies Trump under 14 (3) of the constitution, and I expect it to rule 6-3 or 5-4 against him, Haley has good chance of winning in 2024. I guess I have to live with that. In any other circumstance hardcore MAGAs would stay home, but she has a path to victory in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision: 'The people not the courts should decide the President of the United States. Maintain your rage.'

So, as I see it, if Trump is knocked out, we are looking at President Haley. The torch may be passed to another lying Republic, She does not believe in anything, so there is that I suppose. Better Nikki than Liz Cheney. I guess.

3. No, no and no. SCOTUS should decide this, NOT THE VOTERS, and Haley has no chance.

She's trailing trump by 30-40 point still, as she has been for the whole campaign. She running for second place, as are the other candidates.

And do I have to harken back to as recently as 2016 and Hillary's run. White male voters still see the presidency as white male preserve (Obama-is-considered-an-absolutely-never-to-happen -again-aberration), as do the majority of white women who voted for trump, and women who follow their spouces' lead.

Haley has no shot.

And again, the idea that the voters should decide an obvious court function appalls me. That's right out of the maga, white male playbook. Where did you get that notion, and advocate it here on DU, the absolute wrong place for such maga sentiment?

There's many a slip between the cup and the lip in a President election, 1988 for example. No, I don't expect the President to get into a tank, but remember the 'unknown unknowns'.

Haley vs. Trump vs. Biden
She beats the President by 17 in the latest WSJ poll. Trump wins by 4.

falling constantly, inflation way down, unemployment at it's lowest in 50 years, Biden infrastructure projects with thousands of jobs getting funded in many red and blue states, women still pissed at republicans, and that includes Haley, for snatch away abortion rights, and trump and the maga right threatening democracy with their Project 25 and it's blatant fascism promises of retribution...PLEASE proceed then.

I'll pass.

Haley, still 40 point behind trump with the Iowa caucuses starting in three weeks, still has no chance, and for reasons already listed, trump doesn't either. And I didn't even mention he will likely be convicted in at least one of the 91 felony charges against him in the 4 indictments hanging over his head. Probably SC Smith's J6 case in DC, or maybe even the NY DA's case against him for paying off the prostitute.

We disagree fiercely on policy and methods, but that's just politics. Trump is a fascist nutbag who will absolutely rev up a killing machine.

We have to be able to make distinctions. Mitt Romney was not going to destroy the Republic. He was a decent man. I'm glad Obama beat him because I disagree with him on policy, but pretending he was some kind of evil selfish nut was silly. The same for Haley. I want to beat her in an honorable campaign, but she's not a a bad person, and if she wins, we'll all survive. Can't say the same about Trump.

Too afraid to stand up to trump and racists. And now her ridiculous answer on the cause of the Civil War. I'm really disgusted by all of the gop's candidates. They are disgusting cowardly hypocrites. Christy only saw the light on his death bed after trump gave everyone covid.

13. I agree that we're safer the sooner Trump is out of the running. I disagree, however, that leads to a Haley win.

If anything, Biden more easily beats anyone besides Trump.

Why? Because if Trump is out because he loses the Republican primary, he definitely runs as a third party candidate and splits the opposition to Biden.

If Trump is barred by the 14th amendment, or just keels over from a heart attack, Republican voters will be too dispirited, or wrapped up in angry conspiracy theories about how Trump was disqualified/assassinated by satanic pedophiles or fantasies that Trump was just in hiding (if said to be dead), to rally behind any other Republican, who half would view as being in on their imagined conspiracies against Trump.
