He would use it as a campaign stunt. Of course, now he will claim his right to speak and defend himself was denied, but that is not as bad as allowing him the courtroom platform to spit his venom. His guilt has already been established.
I hope the maximum penalties and fines are imposed and New York kicks him to the curb.

Since he never declared he was pro se, he isn't a lawyer of record.

To give the closing would make him a witness and subject to cross examination, which is not the point of a closing argument.

Where does the rescind come in?

Plus whatever status pro se or lawyer has to be determined at the beginning.

apparently the judge was willing to let him make a statement as long as he followed the rules set forth for his lawyers. Namely, that he stick only to facts presented during the trial. No new evidence, campaign speaches, or attacks could be entered.

He has declined those rules and won't be speaking.

The judge had granted conditional permission. That permission was retracted - apparently by Trump's attorneys not submitting the paperwork by yesterday, which was a precondition to being permitted to give a closing argument.

he's a one trick pony. we've heard it so many times. it was bullshit then it's bullshit now it will be bullshit tomorrow.
trump will protest this very loudly to his cult. maybe it would make more sense to make a motion in the court and make the case, but we all know that tfg won't do that. he may even have brought this up so that he could whine to his cult.

But I don't think Trump ever had any intention of actually making the closing argument. This is just more stupid Trump games. Orange clown theatre for magat morons. Engoron has patiently put up with enough of Trump's crap. Let's get on to the judgement.

"Thus, in my sole discretion, I will consent to let Mr. Trump make a closing argument if, and only if, through counsel by 1/9/2024, and by himself, personally, on the record, just before he speaks, he agrees to limit his subjects to what is permissible in a counsel's closing argument, that is, commentary on the relevant, material facts that are in evidence, and application of the relevant law to those facts. He may not seek to introduce new evidence. He may not "testify." He may not comment on irrelevant matters. In particular, and without limitation, he may not deliver a campaign speech, and he may not impugn myself, my staff, plaintiff, plaintiff's staff, or the New York State Court System, none of which is relevant to this case, and all of which, except commenting on my staff, can be done, and is being done, in other forums. If Mr. Trump violates any of these rules, I will not hesitate to cut him off in mid-sentence and admonish him. If he continues to violate the rules, I will end his closing argument and prevent him from making any further statements in the courtroom. If he violates the current gag order against him, I will immediately direct court officers to remove him from the courtroom forthwith and will fine him not less than $50,000. Finally, he must state on the record before he
begins to speak that he also understands that, without exception, defendants, collectively, have only from 10:15 to 12:45, with one 15-minute break, to present their arguments, meaning that whatever time he speaks is time that other defense attorneys will not
have.

Plaintiff will also have two hours and 15 minutes, from 2:15 to 4:30, to present closing arguments.
Mr. Kise, please respond.
Justice Engoron"

1. The banks should have checked the square footage and fair market value.

2. Since they didn't do that, it's their fault they lost $$ from higher interest payments.

3. I paid those loans back.

4. Besides, it worked!

Here are the rules and conditions that the judge told TFG that he would have to comply with if he wanted to give part of the closing argument

TFG did not respond to the third deadline and so the judge ruled that TFG could not give part of the closing argument
