(22,143 posts)Why is this a problem? Millions of people want to watch Manning throw a ball and are willing to pay top dollar to do it. If he didn't make that money, the scummy owner would take in even more.
On the other hand, no one wants to pay to watch a soldier do his thing. Or maybe they do and it just hasnt been tried. Are the soldiers underpaid? Almost certainly but they aren't selling anything, they aren't generating profit and so they don't make millions of dollars.
I'm not sure what the argument in this graphic is and I'm not sure what anyone wants done about it.

(15,804 posts)We tell the soldier that we value his service, and we reward him with a yellow ribbon magnet on our bumper. Conversely, we idolize with enormous rewards those who entertain us by playing with balls. Something awfully bassakwards in that.
It's our values that need fixing.

(6,205 posts)We also reward those who entertain us with Grammy's, Golden Globes, you get my drift.
You are spot on with the observation that it is our values that need fixing. (imho)

(22,143 posts)Everyone likes to say we care about the troops but ask for higher taxes to give them more money and see what happens.
I just think it's a bad comparison.
