3. I don't really see Phillips as a grifter.

I think he either overestimated the desire for a younger candidate in 2024 or this was a test run for 2028.

If it's the latter, I think he can write that one off. I imagine this went much more poorly than he could have imagined, and any chance he might have had in 2028 is likely gone. He's just not compelling in any way that I've seen.
