Last years Black Friday live blog from NBC News offers a glimpse into a wide range of horrors, among them not one but two armed robberies:

4. Pepper spray galore.
Last year we heard a lot about Occupy activists getting pepper sprayed, but did you know that Black Friday shoppers were also getting sprayed with the stuff?

(4,015 posts)I think black friday says alot about how truly fucked we are as a nation. I haven't seen black friday madness since leaving the states years ago - in my imagination, it is quite apocalyptic by now.

(3,502 posts)was when I worked in them. That was a long time ago, and while it was still called Black Friday it wasn't anything like it is now, I don't think. It was just very, very busy. Now I work in an office where we get that Friday off, but if I go out at all, it's just to the food store.

I'm lucky I'll be home with the kids while the wife and her best friends hit he stores. For the first time in years we don't have any specific items on the list.

(15,396 posts)A bunch of people running around competing against one another for a goal. (stuff, deals, gifts...whatever you want to call it depending on your BF POV)
If you don't have specific items on the list you don't need anything?

(15,396 posts)We don't need anything but the kids will receive a bunch of junk as is typical.
I got the last major gift (Honda CRF70F) yesterday for my son.
My wife and her friends will go out drink some starbucks hit a bunch of stores and come home with some funny stories of the silly shit they observed. I know she'll come home with 100's of bucks of misc crapola, but we have no "must have" items. That's the secret of BF don't go with an intended target but instead just snap up unexpected leftover/overlooked items.
