(19 posts)I mean seriously, can you imagine Mittens and Bolton in this situation? Oh, wait, there wouldn't be a situation other than that big empty hole in the ground that used to be Gaza..... Never mind.

(37,449 posts)This is an extremely hopeful development in the relationships partnered so many years ago by Mr. Morsi & President Obama's predecessors, Anwar Sadat & Jimmy Carter. It speaks much about both men with ideological differences, coming together to forge a compromise in this present conflict. To suddenly pull your SOS Clinton out of one far Asian part of the world and have her on site in the Middle East within 24-48 hrs speaks much about this relationship. It demonstrates to all those parties involved that this country seeks a solution to the conflict & will work with all. When words are flying across the table and the missles are silent much more can be accomplished between peoples.

(31,849 posts)I shudder to think how a romney administration would have botched this.
President Obama is a leader's leader and he has put together a masterful team.
But that said ... the quote below is exactly what is wrong with American Think-tankary:
This guy may be an "expert" in foreign policy; but is allowing his ideology and national arrogance to color his judgment. He clearly sees Morsi as a "Lesser"leader who is "On the other side" and someone to be manipulated; rather than, a peer level Head of State to be collaborated with in order to accomplish mutual goals.
It's guys like that that start wars and prevent international collaboration.

(15,369 posts)Satloff appears to be recognized as quite knowledgeable about ME affairs. But I doubt whether he is as impartial as is needed in this most volatile of situations if he takes this opportunity to make a gratuitous and back-handed slap at Morsi's "ideology" rather than focusing positively on the pragmatic behavior that resulted in the truce. Sheesh!

And yes, I am thoroughly happy that President Obama and SOS Clinton were handling this crisis! That is definitely something to be EXTREMELY thankful for today!
