From the Daily Mail. Ok, it's the Daily Mail, but I've heard rumbles from elsewhere, too:
'It's just desserts!' Matt Lauer 'set to get the axe' from Today after ratings free-fall and clashing with co-anchors
After repeatedly clashing with co-anchors and overseeing plummeting ratings, the Today show's Matt Lauer is reportedly being given the boot.
The long-time host, who earns a staggering $21.5 million a year, is being blamed for the NBC morning show's dismal performance over the past three months and sources claim ratings will only improve if he is replaced.
According to The National Enquirer, weatherman Al Roker is plotting to push the 54-year-old TV veteran out of his anchor chair and is lobbying a newly appointed Today producer for help.

(51,076 posts)Before she was discovered by the big wigs. Back when news was actually news. Haven't seen any of that in over a decade now.
Yes, Ann Curry

(11,464 posts)Al Roker had about like 12 plate fulls of food at the Cape May character breakfast, stacked to the sky. He was with his daughter.
He lost some weight now. Good for him. I applaud him.
Al Roker is noble, in that he is revenging when Matt ousted Ann Curry.(edited to change typo)
But i doubt Al would be given hosting duties.
They will probably go with another boy toy that Matt used to be back when his hair was long and he wasn't so full of himself.

(4,835 posts)First - the show started to suck quite a while before they got rid of Ann Curry.
Personally - I found her interview style to be overbearing and phony...I do not miss her.
They need to go back to being more of a news program.
Except for the first half-hour...the entire show seems to be geared toward women, lame-ass celebrity news - and reviews of great products we need for our housekeeping chores.
THE CONTENT OF TODAY SUCKS!!!
Why exactly are they banking on Savannah Guthrie?
And what the hell was she doing next to David Gregory for the DNC/Elections?
She clearly has no political insight...and doesn't seem a serious journalist...a tad better than Jenna Bush...(and really WTF is she doing there?)
And finally - even the production values of this show have gone down hill - EVERYDAY - there is some audio glitch...
The hosts all seem uncomfortable and walk over each others lines...
Amazing to see this once great show bottom out...
I'd go back to a more news oriented format - and keep Lauer as some "elder statesman" role...

(4,835 posts)Ann Curry could hold her own in political commentary...
Too bad they relegated her to those sappy "human interest/tragedy/triumph" stories...so lame...
"So tell us...how did that make you feel"...A little of that crap goes a long way.

Could never figure out why anyone would hire Lauer for that job - who would think he's worth a fraction of what he gets paid?

The formula never seems to change: some conservative stiff with a happy, perky young female as a foil.
