No Labels considering Geoff Duncan as candidate

No Labels may finally have a candidate in consideration for its third-party "unity ticket" in the 2024 presidential election.

Sources familiar with the group's efforts to field a third-party ticket tell ABC News that No Labels representatives have had meetings with former Georgia GOP Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan about running as the group's presidential candidate.

Duncan wouldn't comment on this report, but isn't shutting down speculation.

On Friday, No Labels voted to move forward with the effort to field a bi-partisan challenge to the presumptive Democratic and Republican nominees President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

Just another RepubliKKKan...so we know who they are. They might as well run Nomrata Randhawa.

My view is that he will be more of a spoiler for trump and the MAGAs

5. Like with anything, it depends.

On its face, it might not look like it'll hurt Biden because he's a Republican. But Geoff Duncan was a Haley supporter and does not like Trump at all.

Where it can hurt is if some of those anti-Trump Republicans would have been open to maybe voting Biden, decide to vote for Duncan instead.

Georgia (or other states) could be so narrow that something like that throws the race. They don't even have to be a huge percentage of voters.

Of course, if these voters were locked into Trump, but very begrudgingly, it may give them an out.

I guess it depends on whether you believe that Haley supporters really aren't ever going to vote Trump. If you do, this guy being in the race could hurt Biden more because it just takes a vote that was never going to go Trump away from Biden. Again, with how close this election could be, that might matter. If you believe these voters were still going to vote Trump regardless what they were telling pollsters, yeah I think it helps Biden as it gives them an out now.

So, like I said, it depends.

edit: I don't think No Labels will get on the ballot in Georgia so the state he could have the biggest impact might not be relevant.

12. Both need all the voters they can get.

If these voters are never going to vote Trump, as some polls have told us and some have pointed out multiple times here on DU, giving them a more conservative option other than Biden helps Trump. Why? Because if Biden only wins 20% of those voters and the rest vote another option other than Biden or Trump, that adds to Biden's overall total.

If both Biden and Trump are at 45 voters out of 100, with 10 undecided and 8 of those voters absolutely, positively not going to vote Trump, if those two voter who are undecided but not 100% against Trump now ultimately decides to vote Trump and the other 8 voters, 5 of whom are Republican Never Trumpers, are debating whether to vote Biden, you can see how it's important, right?

Throw in Duncan and maybe all 5 of those Never Trumpers vote for him over Biden now that they have a traditional Republican option.

So that puts the race at:

Trump: 47
Biden: 45
Duncan: 5
Undecided: 3

So, to win, Biden would have to win all of those undecided voters. And maybe he does. Maybe he wins 48-47 over Trump. But if just one votes another candidate, like West or Stein, the race is tied. Two? Biden loses.

Take Duncan out, though.

Now those five Never Trumpers have a choice to make: Biden, no realistic third party option (as they all seem to be on the quasi-left this time) or don't vote.

Maybe Biden wins just two with the other three not voting. And Biden wins two of the three undecided.

Suddenly, Biden goes from maybe losing to winning:

49-47

Or maybe be gets three of the Never Trumpers and wins 50.

Obviously a very simplistic breakdown. And I concede that if those five Never Trumpers in my scenario were open to voting Trump (so not really Never Trumpers), having Duncan in the race could help.

But polls tell us huge numbers of Haley supporters indicate they won't vote Trump under any circumstance. Those are potential Biden voters that Trump will never win regardless who's in the race. And as I showed, even in the simplest ways, with how close this could be, it might hurt Biden.

Like I said, though, it just depends.

Are people under the impression that most the Never Trumpers are still far-right conservatives?

17. Agreed. But it looks like he won't even be on the ballot in Georgia with No Labels.

Apparently they don't have ballot access in Georgia and you need to be on the ballot before the primaries begin or you can't gain access (it's also expensive, which is why the Greens generally don't get ballot access).

No way a guy like that takes votes from Biden.

Watch Sinema get the VP slot and that would basically seal Trumps fate.
