Along Ravenna Road in red Geauga County (northeast Ohio), I saw a Biden/Harris 2024 yard sign and a Re-elect Sherrod Brown for Senator sign right next to it. Those are first I have seen this season. Here's to seeing many more of them!! 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

(2,567 posts)My general neighborhood had 'sign wars' up the wazoo in 2020. The magats kept stealing signs, and we kept replacing them. Local PD finally figured we were NOT going to stop reporting every stolen sign and we noticed police cruisers being located within line of sight to the most oft stolen signs. The officers were very patient as they filled out complaints about stolen signs in our 'hood. They realized we expected laws to be enforced and they became very diligent.
A couple of idiots who kept stealing signs along the major access to subdivisions around here got busted, arrested, convicted, and paid up. But the guys randomly taking most yard signs were not found. My neighbor on the corner lot said he would put some extra cameras up in his back yard that faces onto the side of my front yard after our sign got swiped. He's stationed out of state now, and I don't know his adult daughter and whether she even turns the cameras on, let alone check on them.
I would LOVE to figure out how to attach one of those explosive dye packets like banks use when they hand over the cash to robbers. I would settle for something a little less awful, like maybe a trained attack skunk or loud submarine dive claxion.

(23,243 posts)I use it on the deck to control pests. It smells too strong to use in the house. If you spray the signs it won't hurt the person that touches them but it will leave a very distinct odor that is difficult to wash away. But I would reapply it to the signs if they are out in the rain.

Just a thought. ❤️

(2,567 posts)Being in AZ, rain is not often a problem.
Wonder if this would also make mice shy away. I know mice don't fancy strong odors either. There is a cherry plum tree where I put my yard sign. The mice like to gather the fruit, then stash it in my garage. This stuff might solve a couple problems for me.

that I remember are a smear of black motor-oil along the top and sides, or a coating of some hot pepper oil or spray. Either way, the thief gets something nasty on their hands that wont easily wash off.
Best of luck!

(2,567 posts)I could put up a sign:
Beware of Blonde
With Shotgun
& Big Dog!
But we are very near a wildlife corridor and it is common for coyotes and javalinas to be running thru the front yard. And there's a great horned owl who delights in buzzing me when I go out front to observe the ISS is passing overhead.

Cheers for yard signs

(111,860 posts)they're not alone if they suspect Biden would be good and TFG a disaster.
Yard signs are also effecive if you coat them with a combination of cayenne and a little dish soap. Sign thieves get a real surprise when they need to pee.

(2,567 posts)And since I buy some of my spices by the pound, I happen to have an abundance of cayenne and a COSTCO size bottle of dish soap!
Thanks, Warpy, you have probably solved my dilemma! Might not stop one theft, but probably wouldn't have the same guy doing it over and over like last elections!
But it would still be fun to have the exploding blue dye packets. MAGA delinquents looking like pissed off Smurfs would be very good warnings to dissuade other bad actors.
And I agree with you re letting other voters know they are not alone. It is likely that knowing that helps many find their voices here.
We had one helluva Ridin With Biden parade thru town in 2020. Got honks & thumbs up all along the way. Even fed misinformation so the MAGAs would show up where we weren't having our rally. They were all geared up for some bullying but only had each other to glare at.
There seems to be more than just a few old hippies and liberal activists from the 60s here abouts. Completely legal but slightly dirty tricks as pay back to some of the MAGA bullies who have actually thrown punches in these parts happen. The more we let the quiet ones know they are not alone, the stronger we are.

(2,567 posts)AZ is purple these days but the magas still think they are the majority and keep giving Kari Lake money for her pointless lawsuits. I feel it is important to let other DEMs know they are not alone here. It seems to encourage others to participate more in political community events.
Noticed in last 2 elections, once a few DEMs put up signs, we got more pro-DEM candidate and issue LTTE in the local fish wrap and some of the more aggressive magas backed off a bit, IOW one on one confrontations went down. Two of our three county supervisors are under indictment for their work to slow certifying the 2020 vote to the point that the whole county nearly had ALL our votes ignored for the state total. I REALLY feel it's helpful to let others know this area is no longer ceded to the RWers.

(3,186 posts)...signs about Issue 1 - larger than usual signs - were planted on that stretch of road. Those signs were on the side of women, of course.

(2,567 posts)Household decided last time: We are NOT going to let the Putin lovers get away with usurping OUR flag for their delusion that they are the party of patriots. Nope, no, nah-ah.
And we take it down at dusk, folding it properly, paying respect as we should, unlike the lazy faux patriots who won't get off the couch to bring in the flag when FOX News is on.
