A British-owned news site does a far better job of reporting on the organizations that secretly work to undo our democracy. US media rarely reports on any right-wing organizations, though they often report Republicans lies about the Soros Foundation. These organizations are actively working to turn the US into a theocracy. One would think that overturning democratic government for theocratic rule would be of some interest to our media.
New documents have shed light on the origins and inner workings of the shadowy Society for American Civic Renewal (SACR), including methods for judging the beliefs of potential members on topics such as Christian nationalism, and indications that its founders sought inspiration in an apartheid-era South African white men-only group, the Afrikaner-Broederbond.
They also show that Boise State University Professor and Claremont thinktank scholar Scott Yenor tried to coordinate SACRs activities with other initiatives, including an open letter on Christian marriage.
One expert says that one of the new documents some previously reported in Talking Points Memo use biblical references that suggest a preparedness for violent struggle against the current regime.
The SACR is a secretive far-right men-only organization with an emphasis on Christian nationalism and a desire to open branches across the US.

(23,391 posts)...all for their own benefit. As Carlin said, it's a club, and you ain't in it. And if they achieve their goals, the rest of us will pay the price. God, I despise these people! In a democracy, NO ONE gets a monopoly on power.

(6,885 posts)It just might work.
But that stubborn old Constitution prevails. It undermines our democracy, to our detriment, on issues such as:
>the electoral college precedence for selecting the executive
>an arbitrary two US senators for each state, no matter the population (dirt's gotta vote, I suppose)
>unequal numbers of citizens represented per US congressman,
for instance:
Montana has 542,113 vs Delaware's 989,948 citizens per congressman. Seems to be, and actually is, grossly unequal. Is it any wonder why "state's rights" is the clarion call of democracy haters?
These ingredients in our "representative democracy" alter the recipe so that it cooks up minority rule, occasionally. Once is enough and we're still in recovery from two occasions of minority executive selection.

(5,232 posts)Why go after the people who are as well armed as you are when you can just waltz into a peaceful protest drum circle in a public park and proceed to crack heads over a few people smoking some weed? Far safer and less chance of losing any decent assets you might get to seize, thanks to the draconian laws about 'illegal substances'.

(86,995 posts)Whatever became of The Family, that RW gang that DeMint became president of when he retired from Congress?
There was a book out about them when W was in office, I remember Rachel Maddow reporting about them when I first started watching her show.

(10,178 posts)I dont think theyre in the news much because there are now so many crazy right-wing organizations. Their funders are probably part of the numerous groups working to impose theocratic rule.

(650 posts)I used to think of him as a Democrat but during the Trump presidency he started spouting more and more BS. Perhaps he is not just funding it but is also the leader of it in the US. I view his move to Texas from California as the real turning point.
For the US government to be relying on SpaceX under his ownership, to me, is truly horrifying.
He has turned into a completely disgusting human being in my eyes. The more he speaks the more disgusting I find him.

(15,481 posts)The Guardian runs on donations (and I give at least once a year.) They also have a pretty well-staffed set of reporters in the US and covering the US.
And, of course kudos to ProPublica also.
By the way, I think the best ways to get news from these sites is via an RSS feed. There are plenty of free readers out there but I use InoReader - lots of search and viewing controls.

(576 posts)I just learned this last year. My minister showed me a diagram. Marriage in Biblical times was not only between one man and one woman.

So tired of these "Christian" nationalists pushing their made up narratives on everyone else. They are a minority trying to rule the majority. Very un-American.

God the Father, God the Son, & then there's a ghost. I guess that's the woman?

(576 posts)I heard an interview with the author of "The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, Leaving The White Evangelical Church"
She had a friend who, I think, was in medical school and was shocked to find men had all their ribs. The friend was so indoctrinated she literally thought all men were missing one rib because it was used to create women. Wow.

Because that's what hoomans do. Try to turn spiritual beliefs into a power cudgel.
There's a prominent U.S. attorney who had some health problems and subsequently nearly died, three times, I think. She wrote some books called the Backwards books and tells what she learned from this experience. None of this religious stuff has anything to do with what 's really going on.
