Ohio Republican politicians trying to normalize Trump are debasing themselves for all of history

https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2024/03/22/ohio-republican-politicians-trying-to-normalize-trump-are-debasing-themselves-for-all-of-history/

Enough. Enough trying to normalize Donald Trump. Enough giving him cover of respectability. Enough with this pretending from Ohio Republican politicians that he’s not one of the most reckless, unstable, chaotic, dysfunctional, angry, corrupt, fraudulent, egomaniacal, vengeful, solipsistic, mean-spirited, ignorant hucksters to ever darken the American stage — that he is somehow not what the past nine years, more than 30,000 of his lies over the course of his presidency, and thousands upon thousands of news stories have clearly shown him to be.

For the third time now, he’s the Republican Party nominee for President of the United States. But I don’t want to talk about the 2024 Election. I don’t even want to talk about politics.

I want to talk about civilization and what it means to be a decent human being and how the two are intimately connected.

To be civilized means to have an advanced society, but it also means to be a decent person. Humans are social and rational beings by nature. That is precisely how we became civilized. We cooperate. We build trust with one another. We use our reason to fashion tools to be more effective at whatever we’re doing. We work together. We compromise. We play our different parts to serve the greater good for all of us.

Together we figure out math, science, and engineering. We build houses. We build shops. We build ships and sail the ocean. We build schools. We build hospitals. We build bridges. We build everything we see when we step outside our doors and go about our lives. We create art, technology, medicine, music. We create families. We create our own lives to be what they are.

It took a lot of hard work but we did it. It seems crazy that we have been written off.

Because the DNC said ‘why not it’s just Ohio’ and wrote us off. Pretty sure that is not working out for any of us!

because a majority of your friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow parishioners and family members wanted the fascist.

Don't blame the DNC.

Were you subjected to commercial after commercial of blatant lies in Vance’s favor? Big money, lies, and are you aware of the process that went in to selecting Vance as a candidate? The man didn’t even live in Ohio when the conversation of his becoming a candidate began. Yes we have millions of crazy Republicans here but Dems have pulled off two major attempts to solve our very serious gerrymandering problem. We won but The Republicans refused to implement the plans voted for. It was sent to the Ohio Supreme Court and still the Ohio legislature refused to follow the law. How do they get away with that? Last fall we defeated an issue that would force 60% vote to pass constitutional changes and actually the Dems won handily. And then there is the abortion issue that passed with a huge margin. We almost met the 60% threshold the R’s were trying to jamb down our throats that also was defeated last fall. Currently we are collecting signatures for the third time to get gerrymandering back on the ballot. It is a never ending battle. It is exhausting!

We have hardworking Dems working to right our problems and I would be very upset about your rude comment accept for one thing…Joe Biden sees us, he campaigned here in 2008, we worked our balls off for Obama and made it happen. It took an army of volunteers from in state and out of state. We had volunteers living in our home for nine months to help staff the local campaign office! We desperately need help as Election Day approaches to fight the disinformation and lies in order to win this presidential election. I am confident that if we can get gerrymandering fixed and fair voting that Ohioans deserve that Ohio can come back. We can’t fight the ninth inning invasion of corporate lies alone! We see how that worked. Giving up on Ohio is not a plan.

Retired military. I split time between my Ohio home and my last duty station, but I live, pay taxes and vote in Ohio.

I saw this firsthand. Following the election of President Obama, Ohioans that I knew all my life, or thought I knew, began spewing some of the most disgusting racist shit I'd ever heard, and I was once stationed in Pascagoula, MS for 4 years.

So yeah, I think I have a good handle on "what" caused Ohio to glue it's lips to Donnie Dipshits butt cheeks.

Ohio is fucked until enough old racist dicks die off.

It pains me to say it, but the place of my birth, and the place I called home has become a festering shithole on par with Forsyth, GA.

Until the "good" people of Ohio are able to out-vote the fascists, we Ohioans will have to bear the shame of calling it "home."

it’s sad and hard and I am tired of working to change our position and seeing zero progress. I do think the national Dems will take an interest this year. If Brown goes down so goes the country. Until the gerrymandering is addressed our state government will continue to be led by ignorant fools. Ps. I thought like you that the raciests would one day die off but I am seeing young ones unashamed of their racist selves. We need another plan! Take care.

In the grander scheme of things, they’re time is growing very short

Whether or not that debasement is preserved for history depends on defeating the fascism which threatens to destroy our representative democracy.

If we fail, history will be rewritten and truth will be flushed down the Memory Hole.
