Whenever things got dark in my life, my mom used to say, Honey, when things get this way, take heart, and keep your chin up. She passed away in 2017, and part of me is glad she didnt have to see the worst of what is happening today. But her words stick with me to this day, and I use them when my kids face tough times.
I think many here could benefit from her words today. And I really do feel hopeful for this year. Just today, we got the news that Trump is going to be held accountable starting April 15th for crimes he committed during the 2016 election. It is the first crimes he was charged with, so it is somewhat poetic that it is the first to go. And the Judge in this case aint having any of Trumps b.s. tactics.
If you follow Meidas Touch, you may note that this trial is pretty open-and-shut. The Judge has denied all the b.s. motions from the defense, including the slimy scheme to try to use the Advice of Counsel defense without paying the price that comes with it. Trump is left with no defense on a pretty heavy evidentiary based case that requires no state of mind and has all the facts and witnesses stacked against him. I do believe that Trump will be convicted before the convention and the RNC will have to figure out if they want to have a candidate who is convicted and who will likely be behind bars, or run a different candidate. Either way, they will most likely lose this election, barring unforeseen events.
And the disappointing news today, the reduced bond, still holds Trump accountable to the tune of 175 million. He still needs to pay up and only has 10 days to do it. It is an indicator that the appellate justices likely would have reduced the amount anyway. And even though Trump gets less bond to post, it aint over, and thats money he cant use for other purposes. I will say I am disappointed too, but only because I savored to see Trump embarrassed by the seizure of assets. But justice isnt about that.
I wont deny things are a bit darker today, but I will say this to you here: take heart, and keep your chins up. There is a long way to go, and we need each other to get there.

(17,507 posts)...it's that we really have to follow the examples of all those who kept doing the right things when people and events kept dealing blows to progress. Pick an area civil rights, education, public health and think where we'd be if those on the side of progress hadn't gotten up after every reversal and if reinforcements hadn't kept arriving.
Let's do this. We owe it to everyone alive today and those yet to come.

(69,458 posts)I'm not surprised by this ruling and it I don't think it's that important in the scheme of things.

Anybody who is not alarmed by what's happening should look at history starting with Germany.
Your mom sounds like my mom. I'm glad this didn't happen in her or my dad's lifetimes.

Our justice system is built to favor those who can delay justice with money. It's not for real Americans.

(25,808 posts)Control/influence what you can. The rest is like sports talk radio. Anything said before a game is meaningless, and anything said after it is pointless.
Courts have repeatedly failed but the ballot box has succeeded. They're the only power we have, which we can influence.
There are many ways we can help, even out of state.
