Now, there's an accusation out there that Newt wanted an open marriage, just like Bill and Hillary. And in fact, Newt even had the politeness to ask permission for it. Do you think Bill ever did that?Guess who?
So Newt wanted an open marriage. BFD. At least he asked his wife for permission instead of cheating on her. That's a mark of character, in my book. Newt's a victim. We all are. Ours is the horniest generation. We were soldiers in the sex revolution. We were tempted by everything from Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice to Plato's retreat, Deep Throat to no fault divorce. Many of us paid the ultimate price, AIDS, abortion, or alimony for the cultural marching orders we got. Hell, for all I know we should be getting disability from the government.

(90,795 posts)We get it. It's the fault of those free love hippies. Society made you do it. Hollywood made you do it. You were just trying to fit in.
Blame anybody but yourselfs for your own bad behavior.
Yeah - that's a mark of character. You betcha!

(3,450 posts)He was instead demanding acceptance of the status quo. From my understanding he was already involved with Calista and was demanding that his wife at that time Marianne accept the situation of being his wife while Calista would be his mistress (concubine). That IMHO is not asking for permission but demanding acceptance of the situation.
