(34,845 posts)I used to think plastic bags were better because they didn't require trees being cut down. But if that statistic is correct, that only 1% of bags are recycled, that's not a good deal.
I'm going to start using my own duffel bag from now on.

They say it already helped reduce plastic waste in the area.

Of course, we still get too many even for that, so we save all plastic bags and drop them off at the grocery store plastic bag recycle bin.

I have a huge collection, which I try to keep pared down by giving them
away to my son and others who can use them.
I just feel too guilty...and besides, those plastic bags rip so easily, there have
been many times I've had to run down my sloped driveway after items fall
from a split bag and roll away and get damaged. Sometimes I find I am
simply missing a tomato or other item when I get to the kitchen.
A reusable bag is cheaper than a lost tomato!
