A woman in Utah who was dubbed a Karen after video of her losing it over a young woman wearing a miniskirt went viral has been charged with sexual battery in connection with the incident.
Ida Ann Lorenzo, 48, allegedly pulled down the womans mini skirt as she complained that it was too small and threatened to call child protective services.
In a video with over 3 million views on TikTok, Lorenzo was filmed defending her decision to pull down the skirt, moments after the encounter in the lobby of the Sakura Japanese Steakhouse in St. George, Utah.
I happen to work for the state and if I have to watch your ass cheeks hanging out again, I will call CPS, Lorenzo said. According to the caption of the TikTok, the veritable Karen aggressively grabbed the skirt before yanking it down, and commented that the girl was probably underage.
Several young women jumped to their friends defense. Shes over 18, one said, and the woman filming confirmed that she was 19 years old.
You do not get to touch her, said another one of the women. Really? Lorenzo asks incredulously. Lorenzo then whispered something inaudible, before saying, No, its not appropriate.

(1,363 posts)Then you're in for an education. It happened in the 60s, too. A cousin's classmate had a teacher yank at her miniskirt that way when he was in high school, ca 1967-1969. Not sure about the year, because I was in either kindergarten or first grade when he told our grandmother about it. And she had to take it--nobody took her side, other than the principal saying that the man should have remembered not to expose her naughty bits to her classmates.
All kinds of people think they have ownership of a woman's body and how they think it should look enough to demonstrate it by yanking at her clothes, grabbing at her hair (especially that of black women), trying to smudge off makeup and more.
This is nothing new. Not in the bloody least. I imagine it's the rare woman who's never had someone deem her appearance unsuitable, then attempt to 'fix' it.

(65,297 posts)First, it's battery either way. She could have tugged on her coat sleeve & it would be battery.
2nd, if she thought the woman was underage, she is now a child molester.
Finally, she's obviously channeling 1885.
Add those up: 1+2+3=Crazy.

"Lorenzo was arrested on Wednesday and charged the same day with sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor."
