The candidate spends most of his time ranting about his criminal trials. The campaign is struggling to raise money from voters, and there is no swing state operation, as the Trump campaign reeks of political death. The Washington Post reported on the alarm bells being rung by swing state Republicans:
In order to win close elections in Georgia, you have to have a ground game that emphasizes turning out early votes and absentee votes, said Cody Hall, a senior adviser to Gov. Brian Kemp (R). I have seen no evidence of them having any of that. The Trump campaign has a consultant in Georgia, but there is nothing else that I can see.
Everyone is generally concerned. There is no sign of life, said Kim Owens, a Republican operative and public relations professional in Arizona. Especially in a state that Trump lost so closely last time, youd expect to have more of a presence. I would think, Lets step it up. I think its a terrible mistake. In Michigan, some of the states operatives and Republican lawmakers have grown concerned about a lack of an operation there, according to four people familiar with the matter, even as they feel generally bullish about the state.
Trumps big problem is that much of the money that he is raising is going to pay legal bills. The Trump campaign has tried to spin the situation as the ex-president running a leaner and meaner operation, but since he wasted $1 billion in campaign funds in 2020, Donald Trump has struggled to raise cash.
Trump is increasingly trying to cut deals with potentially wealthy donors like Big Oil, but this is a very different operation from 2016. There is no campaign arm mobilizing potential voters, and since took over the RNC and turned it into his personal operation, there is no party-wide effort in the swing states. It sounds like swing state Republican parties are out there on their own while Biden and the Democrats are building a massive get-out-the-vote operation.
Campaigns that have money troubles and no get-out-the-vote operation tend to underperform the polling and lose. Trumps campaign reeks of electoral death, and if the situation continues for much longer, the GOP could be looking at another Trump-led loss in 2024.

OTH, the Biden campaign is wearing my old ass out with emails. I give them regular hefty donations the old fashioned snail mail way. I chuckle when the emails ask me whether Im ready to give my first donation. Awesome problem for Dems to have relative to the brilliance of the don.

(16,959 posts)When the news tells you that Biden & Dems are ahead by about 10 to 1 in donations it is hard to 'handle' an e-mail plea that the Dems are facing disaster in fund raising.
Yes, we NEED to support the Dems - but be honest in your requests!
Wow. Asking for continuing support to prevent the end of American Democracy and the Republic annoys you? Wow. 10 to 1 in funding is not a guarantee when you have the anti-America party, has packed the courts and do not respect the opposition. The party trying to install a dictator and then engage in a pogrom against other Americans means I will keep giving until it hurts.GOTV.

It occurs to me this is why he and Tim Scott keep responding negatively to questions about accepting the votethe vote doesnt matter. What matters is declaring the election rigged and also repub-controlled State govt controlling how the elections are run. Its the Its unfair because I say it is ruse. This has always been my fear. I cant see TSF getting more votes than Biden, but voter suppression, intimidation, state election laws, repub governors and atty generals, etc, can cause chaos. Its going to rough. Bank on it.

And just weeks before the election the Justice Department violated their own rules by publicly announcing more investigation. In addition, Trump sweet-talked the Mid West into believing he would restore manufacturing...something Biden is actually doing, and of course, Trump did no such thing.
It didn't help that NAFTA became an issue and even though Hillary had nothing to do with it, she was blamed. It also didn't help that she was forced to support the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as a member of President Obama's candidate. I was against the PPP but it would never affect my vote. It should never have been brought up during an election year or ever if you ask me. And Roe hadn't fallen. This is an election like no other, and I believe Trump will lose badly.

As such, I don't think we can totally depend upon the pro-trumpers being a total "no-show" in the ground game---

Still, it is not good for him that his own campaign is basically doing nothing at this point,
but there's a lot of pro-fascist billionaires out there who could fund such paid GOTV efforts...
Clearly, the Re-Elect President Biden campaign is far superior to any pro-Trump efforts that we can SEE, at this point...

Having presence in those states is money well spent to get the voting electorate involved. Democrats have winning issues popular with the voters....Abortion and Reproductive Rights, growing Democracy, Student Loan forgiveness, Jobs, Higher Wages, etc. Kitchen table issues that hit home with voters. Democrats running for office are getting the message out.
What do the Republicans have going for them? TAKING AWAY everything we hold dear as a Nation, a people. NOT a winning strategy.

(15,239 posts)How Paul Manafort Tried to Make Money With a Project Supposedly Tied to the Chinese Regime
Read the confidential memo he wrote about the deal.
by David Corn
Mother Jones, May 10, 2024
In March, the politerati were atwitter over what appeared major news: Longtime political operator, lobbyist, wheeler-dealer, and (pardoned) felon Paul Manafort was in talks to join Donald Trumps 2024 presidential campaign. This seemed an odd move, given all of Manaforts schemings over the years. A more recent Manafort business ventureunknown to the publicraises further questions about him and his attempt to return to the Trump fold. According to documents obtained by Mother Jonesincluding a memo written by Manaforttwo years ago, Manafort was trying to orchestrate a $250 million deal to create a streaming service in China in a project that he asserted was blessed by the Chinese government and that was partnering with a Chinese telecommunications firm sanctioned by the US government.
On Friday morning, the Washington Post, which obtained the same documents, broke the news of Manaforts involvement in this endeavor.
Manafort was Trumps campaign manager for part of 2016until Trump dumped him after allegations emerged that Manafort had pocketed $12.7 million in undisclosed cash payments a few years earlier from a pro-Russia political party in Ukraine. (His lawyer denied he had received this money.) Two years later, as a result of special counsel Robert Muellers investigation of the Trump-Russia scandal, Manafort was found guilty of and pleaded guilty to assorted financial crimes related to his consulting work in Ukraine, including bank fraud and conspiring to defraud the United States. He was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison and sent off to the hoosegow. (He was released to home confinement during the Covid pandemic.) In 2020, a bipartisan report from the Senate Intelligence Committee declared Manafort a grave counterintelligence threat, revealing that during the 2016 race he had repeatedly passed Trump campaign inside information to a former business associate who was a Russian intelligence officer and a Kremlin agent. In his final weeks in the White House, Trump pardoned Manafort.
In the years since Trump cleaned his slate, Manafort has mostly maintained a low public profile. During part of that stretch, he privately endeavored to facilitate a huge deal in China. Emails and memos show that in May 2022 Manafort was working with a privately-held Hong Kong-based company called Standard Huaxia Limited to set up a new streaming company in China dubbed Doorways. Manafort and his colleagues were looking to raise an initial $25 million for the project that Manafort noted was seeking $250 million.
Snip
This memo stated the Chinese Govt has agreed to endorse and support the development of Doorways in a variety of ways with the plan to take the company public within 18 months from launch, and it maintained, Doorways will be the first [joint venture] Chinese-American company to be involved in ownership and operation of a major internet vehicle in China.
Continues
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/05/paul-manafort-china-trump-doorways/
Still weaseling to make money for the vilest, Manafort will find a way to crawl back into his pardoners pocket.
