The odds that Arkansans will vote on a constitutional amendment legalizing abortion increased with last weeks report by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that supporters raised $321,461 in April.
Of that, $250,000 came from three big donations. Still, it was much more than the $28,860 Arkansans for Limited Government had raised since it formed last November.
Abortion became illegal in Arkansas in 2022 except when the woman faces a life-threatening medical emergency. That change resulted from the U.S. Supreme Courts Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization decision. State lawmakers had passed a law automatically establishing the ban if the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion were overturned. According to the pro-choice Guttmacher Institute, Arkansas is one of 14 states where abortion has been almost totally banned or is unavailable.
Arkansans for Limited Government is seeking to re-establish abortion here. Its Arkansas Abortion Amendment would legalize abortion up to 18 weeks in all cases, with no limits afterwards in cases of rape, incest, a fatal fetal anomaly, or when the doctor determines the abortion is needed to protect a pregnant females life or to protect a pregnant female from a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury.

I don't have stats. I just have pointless "anecdata." By and large, you tell somebody who believes X that they really should believe Y, the needle moves ... a smidgeon. An informative PR campaign that accurately fills in a void when the opposition has money but accuracy isn't on its side will sway the voters, provided it doesn't violate a core belief. A good, manipulative PR campaign that ignores facts and community beliefs moves it little; a tone-deaf one moves it less.
Focus on $, you miss what's important to voters because of what's important to "us".
