Most of our competing policy proposals differed by only matters of degree, but partisans began arguing about them in terms of absolutes. Political spin evolved into boldface lies and consensus about facts and truth ceased to exist. Loyalty to the Republican party became more important than their oaths to the country.
Almost overnight, old allies were regarded as enemies, while an old adversary who meddled in our election and hacked our utility grid was suddenly admired. Emboldened by a revolt against political correctness, white supremacists proudly removed their hoods and Evangelicals began to ignore the Gospel of Matthew. This cannot end well.
