AR: Group pushing to get abortion amendment on ballot met deadline to file financial disclosure, commission says
Family Council President Jerry Cox filed an ethics complaint against the group leading the campaign for an abortion amendment, stating it had failed to file its financial disclosure by the deadline, but the state ethics commission said Thursday afternoon that Arkansans for Limited Government's disclosure had met the filing deadline.
Cox is the founder of the Family Council, which describes itself on its website as "a conservative and education research organization." He also serves as president of the Family Council Action Committee's campaign arm aimed at defeating the proposed ballot measure.
If approved, the proposed measure would allow for abortions up to 18 weeks after fertilization or in cases of rape, incest, fatal fetal anomaly or to protect the mother's life or from physical harm. Arkansas law currently bans abortions except in cases of a medical emergency to save the life of the mother.
Cox said he checked with the Arkansas Ethics Commission on Wednesday after not seeing Arkansans for Limited Government's financial disclosure form listed on the commission's website. He said officials from the ethics commission told him they had not received the disclosure form from Arkansans for Limited Government, which led to the complaint being filed.
