Trump Demands Biden Remove Ad of Him Calling Dead Soldiers 'Suckers' and 'Losers'

Donald Trump on Sunday called for President Joe Biden to take down an attack ad featuring a series of quotes attributed to the Republican in which he mocks dead soldiers.

The former president’s demand came on the same day that Biden honored fallen troops in a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France, the burial ground that Trump chose not to visit in 2018 and was later reported to have done so while describing the site as “filled with losers.” Trump has denied making the remark—and another in which he allegedly called more than 1,800 Marines “suckers” for being killed—ever since The Atlantic first published his purported words in 2020.

Those denials continued Sunday, first at a rally in Las Vegas. “He said I stood over graves of soldiers and I said: ‘These people are suckers and losers, the dead soldiers from World War I,’’ Trump said, referring to Biden. He went on to claim the whole episode was “made up” and, despite the Biden campaign knowing it’s “phony,” they still “took an ad using it—these are sick people.”

Trump appeared to be referring to an attack ad launched by the Biden campaign on Friday during the president’s visit to Normandy for ceremonies commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The video featured the reported “suckers” and “losers” quotes, along with audio of Trump mocking the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as being thought of as a “war hero” because he was captured during the Vietnam War. “I like people that weren’t captured,” Trump added.

But his allegiance to Trump matters more than his loyalty to the military and those who died liberating Europe from Hitler.

Here's the sequence of his change:
1. Trump goes to D-Day commemoration during his administration. He said and did disrespectful things about our military and those who fought and died.
2. Biden goes to D-Day commemoration and behaves with respect, honoring the heroic sacrifices.
3. Trump's behavior is back in the news, and people are talking about his disrespect for the heroes of D-Day.
4. Lindsey Graham decides that licking Trump requires joining him in sneering at those who served.
5. Also, he realizes he now has to denigrate the importance of D-Day and the immense (though destructive) achievement.
6. Once again he proves that loving Trump means hating all that is good.

before the escalation into another world war which is what led to D-Day being necessary. Not that D-Day was a failure. And he was comparing it to what will happen if we fail to stop Putin. This was in response to Tommy Tuberville claiming Putin has no interest in seizing land.

If you spent 15 minutes studying Putin and what he wants, he wants to recreate the Russian Empire. He's not going to stop in Ukraine. We celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day. It was a failure. It was the unnecessary war, described by Winston Churchill. We had a dozen chances to stop Hitler. It's not about NATO. It's not about American weapons in Ukraine. It's about a megalomaniac wanting to create the Russian Empire by force of arms. If you don't stop him, there goes Taiwan. So we've been slow as hell of helping Ukraine, but Senator Tuberville's analysis really misses what Putin's all about. He's an outlier, I think, in the Republican Party. I like him personally. But what did Trump do to get the weapons flowing? He created a loan system. They're sitting on 10 to $12 trillion of critical minerals in- in Ukraine. They could be the richest country in all of Europe. I don't want to give that money and those assets to Putin to share with China. If we help Ukraine now, they can become the best business partner we ever dreamed of, that 10 to $12 trillion of critical mineral assets could be used by Ukraine and the West, not given to Putin and China. This is a very big deal how Ukraine ends. Let's help them win a war we can't afford to lose. Let's find a solution to this war. But they're sitting on a gold mine. To give Putin 10 or $12 trillion for critical minerals that he will share with China is ridiculous

You want the ad taken down that quotes you, fearful of getting your elaborate hairstyle wet, describing war graves as “filled with losers” (unlike you, who famously boasted that you fulfilled your national service through the selfless winning sacrifice of trying to lay as many misguided women as possible despite the heightened risk of AIDS at the time) and that time you as commander-in-chief called loyal but dead marines “suckers” and that time you said of POWs that you preferred those who “weren’t captured”?

You want the one quoting you complaining that war graves were “filled with losers”, calling marines “suckers” and disrespecting POWs taken down?

That one?

OK, I remember those episodes clearly now. After everything else you've been up to in the mean time, they seem almost quaint.

Yeah, they'd better do that before anyone else is reminded of what you said. I'm sure they'll get right onto that.

Because he did. He said one of his loathsome remarks about the military dead to John Kelly at Arlington National Cemetery--over the grave of Kelly's son killed in Afghanistan, no less.

On Memorial Day 2017, Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery, a short drive from the White House. He was accompanied on this visit by John Kelly, who was then the secretary of homeland security, and who would, a short time later, be named the White House chief of staff. The two men were set to visit Section 60, the 14-acre area of the cemetery that is the burial ground for those killed in America’s most recent wars. Kelly’s son Robert is buried in Section 60. A first lieutenant in the Marine Corps, Robert Kelly was killed in 2010 in Afghanistan. He was 29. Trump was meant, on this visit, to join John Kelly in paying respects at his son’s grave, and to comfort the families of other fallen service members. But according to sources with knowledge of this visit, Trump, while standing by Robert Kelly’s grave, turned directly to his father and said, “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?” Kelly (who declined to comment for this story) initially believed, people close to him said, that Trump was making a ham-handed reference to the selflessness of America’s all-volunteer force. But later he came to realize that Trump simply does not understand non-transactional life choices.

“He can’t fathom the idea of doing something for someone other than himself,” one of Kelly’s friends, a retired four-star general, told me. “He just thinks that anyone who does anything when there’s no direct personal gain to be had is a sucker. There’s no money in serving the nation.” Kelly’s friend went on to say, “Trump can’t imagine anyone else’s pain. That’s why he would say this to the father of a fallen marine on Memorial Day in the cemetery where he’s buried.”
