Donald Trump claimed that Joan Rivers voted for him in 2016, despite the comedian having died two years earlier.
The former US president and recently convicted felon was interviewed by Variety editor Ramin Setoodeh last November for a new book about his time hosting The Apprentice, Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass, which is set to be published on June 18.
In the book, Trump discusses Rivers, who won the second season of Celebrity Apprentice in 2009.
I thought she might have been a Republican, Trump said. I know one thing: she voted for me, according to what she said.
This claim is impossible as Trump first stood for election on November 8, 2016. Rivers died on September 4, 2014 at the age of 81.

(10,581 posts)... she would probably have voted for him. I heard she was a closet Tea Party Republican. Unconfirmed, really... would like to come back to this thread and learn this was wrong.

(10,581 posts)... is people I heard talking about her, including one of my closer friends, who worked at NBC. I thought it was strange. I was surprised because I assumed she was very progressive.

...you would think more republicans would be focusing heavily on the 'day after trump' and where the party will be...
...but no, they still want to represent the rantings of trump...
...it must be difficult to be a normal republican (if there is such a thing)...

(8,392 posts)I never understood it. I remember seeing Joan Rivers out on the street selling cupcakes. Why she wanted to be an apprentice at her age, I'll never understand.
Why it would be called Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass? Who knows.
But then I didn't like Trump even then. I could see the sadistic way he treated people.

Plus, that's not what being an apprentice is all about. Being an apprentice means that you are carefully trained and mentored through a profession, not that you're competing with a bunch of other people then kicked to the curb. Trust Trump to be associated with something that completely twists the meaning of an honorable term.

I never much cared for reality shows in the first place so I didnt watch The Apprentice. But I agree, it wasnt really in good taste to have a jerk like Trump firing people for cruel laughs while the U.S. was in a recession.
Good point there about the true meaning of an apprentice.
