My high school friend had to flee Ruidoso with her dogs

She breeds mini Aussies and poodle mixes as well. She’s a “liberal” cowgirl and I have two mini Aussies from her which has us reacquainted. Not sure who is more anti Trump me or her but she has to tolerate the southern NM trumpers (no easy feat.)

She did a trial run to make sure she could make it when the time came for evacuation.

20 pups 20 dogs safely evacuated to Estancia (east of Albuquerque).

I am so very relieved.

Said it was the scariest time of her life.

Over 20000 acres burned no containment and wind thunderstorms and lightning ahead.

Rain please without the lightning.

And to be quite honest so unbelievably sad. Ruidoso is such a magical and beautiful place. My heart hurts over this.

I'm so glad your friend and doggies are okay and were able to get out.

And outbuildings were spared.

But…. That small community will have so much to rebuild.

Our governor (Lujan) declared a disaster area. She’s a great governor shepherded us thru Covid.

And thankfully we have a democratic administration that will help!

But as a 50+ year resident of NM my heart is breaking mostly for the residents in the area, Mescalero Apache Tribe, and also for the land and wildlife that perish.

fouled up beyond all recognition. I was in a wild fire years ago and it was scary as h*ll.

It must have been difficult, making it north to Estancia. When I saw what was happening, it seemed like the only evacuation route was through Roswell. That would have been quite a drive unless she left early. Hopefully Ruidoso will get some rain soon!

at the time! She did say it was the scariest time of her life and would not wish the experience on anyone!

I knew in my heart she would be ok she’s so very capable but I was so worried! Nonetheless!

Folks here are donating their homes, food, water, diapers, hygiene supplies….keeping critters (dogs, horses, chickens, cats, exotics, )
I lived in Ruidoso for 20 years. I ache and pray for the wildlife, the firefighters, folks who have lost everything but their lives.
Our thrift stores are packed with people buying clothes, blankets, pillows. I just came from grocery store where folks had carts full of stuff to donate.
0% contained last time I looked for both fires.
