General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOnly Lawrence O'Donnell seems to have the guts to
criticize his peers' coverage of this epically important Presidential race. He goes after them with real anger and shock. He scorched the WH press corps for their insanely aggressive coverage of Biden's "health problems" yesterday and told the truth about what was really going on.
He reminded his fellow journalists that the only reason they even know that a neurologist visited the WH eight times is because THIS WH releases visitors' logs. Guess who did NOT do that? Of course they use this transparency against Biden to baselessly smear him. When the WH proves there is nothing to this story, they continue with their baseless "but people have questions" coverage.
If you want fearless coverage of what is at stake and how the beltway press is covering it, watch his show. I am really looking forward to it tonight. Of course, I'm lucky to be on the west coast so I can watch at seven o'clock. I have a feeling it's going to be good.

(20,183 posts)but I think it's more that he does not let himself get swept up in the beltway narrative and takes his role as a journalist seriously. The experience probably helps him see the big picture, but it takes courage to speak out against his peers in this atmosphere.

(34,189 posts)I've recently been re-watching that show and have been struck by the correlations between what happened in the Bartlett White House to what is happening now in real life. During Bartlett's run for re-election, his MD came out. Calls were for him to resign or to drop out of race were rampant. It was eerie watching that sequence while similar events were happening in real life with Biden.
I've finished those episodes and am now in the Israeli-Palestine conflict. Same old, same old there.

(1,040 posts)Lawrence is calm, thoughtful and has years of experience in the beltway. While other MSNBC hosts were in "pants on fire" mode, he remained calm and resolute about the real stakes in this election. He understands how the media will shape the narrative if they can (that's YOU, NY Times), and I watch his show because it contains FACTS, not innuendo. Thanks for posting senseandsensibility!

In different ways, I think Ali Velshi and Rachel Maddow approach a similar degree
of skill . I love Joy Reid''s passion for the truth and her eloquence.

(20,183 posts)His temperament is ideal. He does show anger when it is appropriate (like now), but in a subdued, serious way. And he does not tolerate BS.

But several times the last week, I can't make it to 11 PM. Lawrence is fearless.
I get kind of dozy too. But I like watching Lawrence. I wish he would take Alex Wagner time slot.

(4,180 posts)First of all, he has already won the nomination
Second of all, he has been a phenomenal president for the past four years
Third of all, he was the only nominee four years ago who was felt to be able to beat Trump.
Fourth of all, who the hell do they think should be nominated at this late date?
Talk about undermining your own party.

(20,183 posts)not because of reality but because of "vibes". Too many politicians and almost the entire media just "feels" that it should happen.

(16,060 posts)didn't even bother to check if Biden was at the WH when the neurologist made his visits. If they had, they'd have learned that on 5 of 8 visits, Biden was traveling and not even at the WH. Ironic, since I'm sure the NYT WH reporter was probably on at least some of those 5 trips.

(1,034 posts)It's shocking but not surprising that they wouldn't check something out that was so easily verifiable. But then again, they only care about pushing him out, not reporting the facts.

(1,034 posts)He's been on the right side from the get go. Joy has come around and has been pounding on the media, the orange monster, and the republican's horrible plans for our country. Katie Phang is also worth watching, as is The Weekend. It's interesting how some of the former republicans have been the some of the most staunch pro Biden voices, like the Lincoln Project and Michael Steele. They can see the immense danger to our country and they know how ruthless and cutthroat the republicans are.
