The infighting and pontificating is excruciating to witness.
It seems to me that democratic voters and the no way Im voting for Trump voter have moved on. It is somewhat perplexing to me that some democrats in Washington are continuing to participate in a circular firing squad. They are creating a self-fulfilling prophecy and dragging Biden and the party down.
IMO, we live in an extremely ageist culture in the U.S. Older people are treated with gross disrespect. I honestly believe that much of what we are witnessing is due to the baked in societal norm of disregarding older Americans and treating them as worthless.
I am seriously contemplating ignoring all news until Election Day and just going in and voting for all the democrats regardless of who is on the ballot. I will say this though: I will be deeply disappointed in my party if Bidens name isnt there.

(16,836 posts)they live in, they don't interact with anyone who is on the low side of the income spectrum. They don't really interact with anyone who isn't in politics or media for the most part. They might have a "hello" at an event or a handshake here and there, but overall, they live in a world that is very different from the one you and I live in.
There are some who are more in touch with us groundlings, but to keep running, large donors are more important than the people on street level. That's the legacy of Citizens United and the influx of unlimited cash through Super PACs.

(1,400 posts)Absolutely dog-shit messaging from the party. I'm just baffled we're four months out from the election and some within the party feel it's a smart election strategy to create chaos and doubt over our nominee.
Even if they are petrified Biden is going to lose, how does this ever create an image of strength for the party? It makes the party look utterly incompetent that they would so quickly abandon Biden after spending a year-plus telling everyone he's our guy - to thinking that abandoning a president FOUR MONTHS from an election wouldn't have some massively negative effects on the race. And that's all assuming that same president, the one you said, "we have your back" since 2023, and won millions of votes during a primary, would even welcome that.
In no reality should anyone have ever thought waging a public campaign like this would actually help the party and if they did, I seriously question their political instincts.
The party's complete overreaction to Biden's debate performance, and their refusal, TWO WEEKS AFTER IT, to settle on a message, is devastating. At this point, their continued failure to unequivocally line up behind Biden is actively hurting the party.

We're already turned off the news.

(24,040 posts)The constant OPs about this are keeping the messaging alive on DU. Now the pearl clutching anxiety is switching from "Should he stay on as candidate?" to "How awful that it is still an issue" while promoting it as an issue with constant OPs about it.
Perhaps we could focus more on the people who are backing Biden than the ones who aren't. That is not burying our heads. It is balancing the persoective.

(9,979 posts)I just took a six week one - came back because recent events are somewhat singular.
It was lovely. Read books, caught up on movies and tv shows, learned enough Tagalog to spy on my mother-in-law. I didn't even notice the amount of time I was previously spending reading news and politics.
Once this current . . . whatever this is . . . dies down, I'll probably go back to it. Until the convention or until the election, who knows. But life was much more relaxing - and much more productive. So much free time. So little unnecessary stress.
Besides. World of Warcraft expansion next month followed by the Diablo 4 expansion. Those two alone will probably carry my free time right into the election. Priorities.

(37,961 posts)I wrote to Senator Bennet this morning after reading his statement that he thinks Trump will win in a landslide & get the house & senate, too. WTF? If that's how you feel then STFU!! I was a little more diplomatic than that, but I'm really angry at all of the hand-wringers & told him they were hurting our GOTV efforts & he needed to channel some Crockett & Newsom fighting spirit!
I've sent three small donations since the debate. Just a few dollars, but the number of donations count for something, too.

It honestly doesn't matter if every card-carrying Democrat was in lock-step because I don't see Biden winning independent voters, and polling confirms that.

(9,762 posts)It's like they and the media are in a room where they only hear each other.
This morning Donnie Deutsch was complaining about how Biden's going to lose because no one's talking about the convicted felon and everyone's talking about Joe...and I'm like, well STFU about it then - I heard it and it's over. I knew the man was old when I voted for him in the primaries. He was sick that night and while you idiots have been losing your marbles about that one night, Joe's been out doing his job in public just fine, and you're acting like HE'S been hiding away, not the adjudicated rapist convicted felon, who when he does emerge talks about the most ignorant garbage ever spouted by a presidential candidate in a campaign ever in the history of the freakin' country.
Oh and what the ever-lovin' f**k do they think we have a Vice President for? Biden's mother was over 90 when she died and in full possession of her faculties, but if the worst happened and he passed away or became incapacitated, we already have the preferred replacement legally and constitutionally elected. They act like a POTUS has never died and been replaced before now and it would be so unprecedented.

(10 posts)We have to stay optimistic and keep doing whatever we can to make up for the MSM BS about Biden. Head in the sand won't do it, but I certainly understand that feeling. I keep a Biden/Harris bumper sticker in the front left corner of my car on the inside, so more cars see it as they pass and so I can take it down when I'm in deep red areas to be sure my car does not get vandalized by rw fanatics. I also write letters, like ms liberty and the DUer who wrote to Bennett, donate as much as I can ( I know some cannot afford to), and plan to put 'No felons/sexual assaulters in our white house!" signs up on key street corners , as well as do phone banking closer to the election. Let's stay united and strong!!!! And fight, fight, fight for our country!

(4,937 posts)I read a post by someone on DU who said that he thought Russian bots may have contributed to the posters who supported Joe after the debate. To me that is a RWTP. But I would not be surprised since the RW echo chamber had taken note of the infighting early on, that there is an effort by RW trolls to contact Dem leaders and to tell Biden to withdraw. They have done so many fraudulent things it would not surprise me, especially with the media driving this. It goes back to a post I made that Biden is the one to beat Trump and they know it.

(291 posts)I know we are all supposed to do it, but if they really live in a bubble, their staff takes the calls and a staffer who is not onboard with the Biden campaign might not turn over any of the messages. They may only hear what their staff wants them to hear. How to get around that? A billboard or an actual conversation.

(11,156 posts)The corrupt enabling media was lining up like little toy soldiers behind Trump, along with some Russian trolls and bots.
It spewed from ever right wing controlled and left wing pretending corporate media entity.
I can't watch TYT anymore. They have so totally bought into the media frenzy like they did with Hillary. They are enabling the Trump Putin Russian propaganda machine that got Trump elected in the first place. They have learned Nothing.
Just know the entire corporate media is perpetuating a con on America to turn our democracy into a fascist dictatorship like Russia is.
They want a fascist dictator so badly they can taste it. It's the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for the filthy-rich owned media. They have been promoting this kind of dictatorship since Nixon.
But I see signs of this winding down. People are starting to wake up. There are fewer DUers who are posting about the frenzy as if Biden's age were a real issue.
Controlling your media and news intake helps. It gives you a chance to think the issues through and notice patterns and manipulation.
Just remember this is just another con. And cons require trust and confidence to continue. I see many more people pulling away from the news and corporate media. They are losing confidence in their journalistic integrity. They don't trust what is reported. Once that distrust sets in, it serves as a kind of protection from another con.
Just don't trust what is spewing forth from the media. Question all their political reporting.

(96,882 posts)It's not enough to say "i'm going to be the nominee". He has to get the Party leadership and elected officials around him. The fact that House Members and now Senators are starting to speak out indicates that he hasn't been successful so far.

(2,489 posts)A President in the midst of two wars, international travel and meetings, and campaign events should not have to prove anything more to his members. If Pelosi were still speaker none of this would have happened because heads would have rolled so some of this goes to Jeffries who I admire and respect greatly. That doesnt mean Im happy that he let people go off half cocked! The fact that Pelosi and Schiff spoke against the president blows my mind. Why wasnt a meeting called before they called Biden out in public? We should have been a united front working post debate. After a closer look at the debate it was clear that Biden did in fact answer the questions. Trump in fact streamed lies at rapid, high volume using a technique certain to exacerbate Bidens speech challenge. Questions of microphone manipulation and other debate irregularities came to light. Instead of working with the president the Dems attacked him. Before I am accused of Dem bashing I am out here in the world surrounded by Biden Supporters who are now definitely rudderless in this debacle. This earthquake has tremors that have left people shook up. Time to make the repairs and move on! Harris is the strongest VP that I can remember. She can and does lead. We need to suck it up and get back to work and get this team elected!

I remember when my mother was pushed to get a neurological exam when in rehab.
She told them to fuck off. There's no point. So what if her math skills were a bit worse.
She didn't have alzheimers or dementia.
Biden doesn't have alzheimers or dementia. The people proposing a neurological exam
are simply mean/maga. Obviously he was able to give a major speech last night. He has all
