Cooper has had to deal with right wing Repubs in this state for years. He's a soft spoken Southern gentleman. But he's savvy.

(7,206 posts)It’s been painful to see people on DU this evening opining freely that we can’t have 2 women on the ticket, or two minorities, or a woman and a Jew, or a woman and a gay man.
Not only CAN we, but it’ll give us a big edge over the party that wants to bring us back to the 1950s pre civil rights and women’s lib era.
brush
(59,419 posts)That has to be the question as if she's bypassed, we can forget it as Black voters, a huge part of the base of the party and why Joe won in 2020, will feel bypassed too. We can't do that if we want to win so it's who works with Harris at the top of the ticket.
Harris and Whitmer? Two women could win if it was just Dems voting, so no, we can't be ruled by emotion.
Harris and Shapiro? Not bad. Good to combat the rethug mysoginist Vance.
Harris and Gov. Cooper. Can't go against him. A white, male from a battleground state, and a Southern state.
Harris and Sen. Kelly of AZ.Good also, from a battleground state, ex-military/astronaut, wife a mass shooting victim, his vacated US Senate seat would be filled by a Dem. governor appointee, plus, him on the ticket would give Dem Ruben Gallego a huge advantage against the hated Kari Lake, his opponent in the AZ US Senate race, meaning possibly two DEM US senators from Az.
IMO, Kelly has the edge, not by much though.
