The Veep has to be a white man

Preferably ex military and hopefully from the midwest or south, with a known name. Don't think Pete can be it because he's gay.

Mark Kelly?
Roy Cooper isn't known nationally or would be good

That has to be the question as if she's bypassed, we can forget it as Black voters, a huge part of the base of the party and why Joe won in 2020, will feel bypassed too. We can't do that if we want to win so it's who works with Harris at the top of the ticket.

Harris and Whitmer? Two women could win if it was just Dems voting, so no, we can't be ruled by emotion.

Harris and Shapiro? Not bad. Good to combat the rethug mysoginist Vance.

Harris and Gov. Cooper. Can't go against him. A white, male from a battleground state, and a Southern state.

Harris and Sen. Kelly of AZ.Good also, from a battleground state, ex-military/astronaut, wife a mass shooting victim, his vacated US Senate seat would be filled by a Dem. governor appointee, plus, him on the ticket would give Dem Ruben Gallego a huge advantage against the hated Kari Lake, his opponent in the AZ US Senate race, meaning possibly two DEM US senators from Az.

IMO, Kelly has the edge, not by much though.

As a woman, I would love an all-woman ticket. But in this climate, and considering there are actually people who can't decide between fascism and democracy, I think we need to balance it out with a white male, sigh.......... And probably not one who is gay, sigh...... All I know is that we now have to coalesce around whoever it is, and as they say, "fight, fight, fight".

Do we have another democrat who can win that senate seat in Arizona?

Do we have another democrat who can win governor in Kentucky? It's not as if Kentucky is going to go blue so unfortunately I don't think he's an advantage for us in an electoral sense, even if I think he's an interesting choice to run down the road.

and it's 19 electoral votes. Kelly second and if neither are interested maybe then take a look at Cooper or Beshear. I think an all woman ticket when we are trying to get the first African American female President elected would be huge mistake as would trying to get the first openly gay VP in history.

I'm not going to comment on whether or not the VP should be white and male.

I am a queer woman in my 50's who works in a leadership position in reproductive healthcare. To say I have a personal stake in the outcome of this election is an understatement. You're sadly correct though. I've had relationships and friendships with both men and women There's plenty of rapist, misogynist Democratic men too. They're just more likely to hide it publicly.

I'm liking Mark Kelly or Andy Beshear; possibly Chris Murphy.

Former member of the House
Is himself a tech multi-millionaire, speaks Tech Bro fluently.
Is often too glibertarian for my tastes (he’s always been rich and it shows), but he’s a solid Dem and tees up the mid-centrist.
Is a real tech millionaire, unlike JD Byrider there who was just a tech billionaire’s lackey.
Is term-limited as governor, so leaving now is NBD.
Has a GREAT lieutenant governor to set up.
Is a western states Dem, with Western States water policy experience. Knows the Colorado River Compact like it’s a holy book.
Has solid executive experience.
Is Jewish, and gay, and married, and has kids.

IMO, Beshear would be the best pick. Already has won election twice in a very Red State. And he is only in his forties. He is,obviously a centrist but that should help with the independents.

My 95 yr old mom just texted she donated to Kamala.

Talked to my neighbor’s 29 yr old daughter and she and her friends have been texting and they are very excited.

This is going to reenergize the D’s and the donors are going to open up their pocketbooks, now.

I just hope the whining and infighting stops and we all get behind whoever is on the ticket against the one old demented guy still running.

Or her and Whitmer. Frankly, I'm tired of the "but..." she's a woman , or a POC, or someone is great, but they're gay.

It's time to shake this thing up, if we don't get Biden. When is it ever going to be the time for a woman, or a non-white, or a gay person? If you listen to the party, that would be never. I can't wait that long.

Roy Cooper has done wonders for NC, but he's older, white and male, and there would be a push to have him first on the ticket and I don't think that's right. Kamala Harris in the #1 spot, then her choice for shotgun.

Tue Jul 23, 2024, 06:55 AM
Jul 2024

The last word, I hope:

Who should be Kamala Harris’ White Man Sidekick? Some milquetoast centrist Governor? Our nation’s most unnervingly ambitious Transportation Secretary? A Senator who may very well be an actual astronaut but is from Arizona, a state that, all its Culvers and Portillo’s franchises notwithstanding, is not in the Midwest? We can do better!
...
Illinois

What an embarrassment of riches! I originally thought of going with Kenneth Allen, also known as “the lawyer from all those Chicagoland-area billboards who wears a funny hat.”
...
But then I remembered Harris’ opponent, Donald Trump, who is a felon. Apparently there is a subset of the American public that is more excited to vote for Trump because he’s a felon. That’s a shame, not because I don’t believe that felons deserve second chances, but because Trump’s such a fake, new money, Johnny Come Lately felon. Back in my day, political felons were real salt of the Earth guys. They had style. They had panache. They looked like they came out of the womb doing white collar crimes. When they had the opportunity to appoint somebody to Barack Obama’s Senate seat, they said cool things like “I’ve got this thing, and it’s f***** golden.” You know who i’m talking about. My fellow Americans, your next Vice President, HONEST ROD BLAGOJEVICH!
...
Indiana

I’m going with John Mellencamp, though. He checks all the boxes.

Born in a small town? CHECK

Lives in a small town? CHECK

Had himself a ball in a small town? CHECK

Married an L.A. doll and brought her to that small town? CHECK

Was divorced by the aforementioned L.A. doll, which may raise questions about the universal appeal of small towns, but that part isn’t in the song, damnit? UM, CHECK

Sometimes calls himself The Cougar? CHECK CHECK CHECK

I mean, case closed. And should Harris need somebody who can suck down chili dogs outside the Tastee Freeze while bemoaning that life after high school is just a depressing march to death and there will be no love like your first love, there’s no other choice.
