NOT JUST FOR our PHOTOGRAPHERS: Do yourself a favor...

Thanks for your votes in the July contest. I was lucky to get third place with my photo of Doreen Ketchens, as she is playing on Royal Street in New Orleans.
Here are the winners, Doreen is my photo.

I have been lucky to listen to her with awe in the gathered crowd several times.

Her wish to play with an orchestra came true.

Loved your photograph.

I've visited New Orleans three times, always visited Preservation Hall, and never wanted the show to end.

I so enjoyed sitting on a car cushion under the trombone of one of the players, whose name I don't remember. Sweet Emma was at the piano, singing with her most memorable voice.

On another "note," my brother "erronis" mentioned to you that we have a wonderfully delightful niece named Mira. Love the name.

about my name.
I was born in the last few months of Nazi rule in Germany, and the fascists, who reach into the lives of people and dictate, did not like Mira on my birth certificate. Not Aryan, they claimed. So my Dad took a pen, made a y out of the i and they accepted it.
Guess what the uninitiated call me in the USA? I am glad you like my photo. It's a favorite of mine.

My niece MIra is named after the Hindu mystic poet Mirabai, her father having been a Hindu scientist. He was my sister's botany professor at Swarthmore where they fell in love, eloped to India where they were married in a full Hindu ceremony. My parents first learned in a telegraph from friends at the American embassy who had been invited to attend.

May the enthusiasm and hard work ahead of us help to keep our democracy alive and well.

My ophthalmologist is Indian. His daughter's name is Mira. She may have been named after Mira Nair, the Indian filmmaker. He won't say. His bedside manner is lacking.
