La. becomes the first to legalize surgical castration for child rapists

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - As of Thursday, August 1, for the first time in the country’s history, child rapists can now be ordered by a judge to have their testicles removed if the victim is under the age of 13 and if the offender is older than 17 years old. The law already allowed judges to issue an order of chemical castration.

“At the end of the day I hope that kids know that they can feel safer because there will be some real tough penalty actions that will occur when somebody violates their innocence,” said the bill’s author Sen. Regina Barrow (D-Baton Rouge).

The law also includes the crime of pornography involving juveniles as an underlying offense and it’s also not just limited to male offenders.

“Unfortunately, females are molesting children as well and that’s a very sad thing to see and to hear. As a matter of fact, one of the cases I was reading not too long ago, I read a case where that was actually happening with guards with children at a particular facility,” Sen. Barrow explained.

I also know way too much can go wrong here knowing how often innocent people get accused of things.

It's a barbaric punishment, but it's an unspeakable crime.

100% proof before the procedure imho

The State can still legally sterilize certain individuals, as long as due process has been provided.

Wrong then and wrong now.

I belive you can do what you want if you accept responsibility for your actions. Live and treat others as you wish to be treated.

Leave the kids and animals out of it. Otherwise suffer the consequences. Not saying animal abusers should be castrated, other penalties should be considered.

Child rapists deserve much more than removal of the nut sac.

On the surface, “cutting it off” or killing pedophiles seems like it would work. It doesn’t. Most predators aren’t jumping out of the bushes to attack victims. CSA is a very complex problem.

It would only prevent impregnating a victim. So rape is still entirely possible.
Stupid law.

Well, child predators won't stop even with castration, but at least their victims won't get pregnant in a state with a total abortion ban.

Will female offenders have their ovaries removed? Or what?

I'm sure harsh punishment is in order. Confinement for life achieves the same goal of protecting the public.

When so called modern western governments engage in murder, assasination, torture or dismemberment we've jumped the shark. This is why I oppose the death sentence, despite acknowledging that many who receive it have carried out acts deserving of such a punishment. And its why I oppose this, too.

Not because they don't deserve it. They do. But, justice is diminished when state sanctioned violence is the solution.

Incarcerate them. Throw away the key. Treat them like humans, feed them well, give them whatever care needed. But never again should they see the light of day to harm another person.

It does not change the pedophile in the least, neither their inclinations, nor any intent to act on them. Once they've crossed that rubicon of acting on their inclination, they don't go back.

Take away one, er method, and they'll simply find new ways to go about it. Worse, their anger at what's happened to them might make them more prone to violence when they do act upon their urges.

This does nothing to help, and in fact may make everything far worse.

With Chemical Castration you can always undo the effect, no so with sugical, and those inevitable innocent people convicted will never be able to go back to being how they were.

On top of that looms the threat of project 2025. They will try and make it where us LGBTQ+ people are illegal and that then they will try and apply this punishment to us.

TSF is never going to Louisiana again.

(Noting here that dude has been friends with more convicted pedophiles and child sex traffickers than I have ever had just normal friends.)
