on cable. Biden received 14 million votes, but Harris is the nominee, and no one voted for her.
Biden voluntarily dropped out of the race for President. No matter how many Democrats wanted a new candidate or what the polls said, no one forced Biden out. It was his choice. So, he ended his candidacy before he was officially chosen as the Democratic standard bearer by the delegates. He released them, so they were unbound and free to vote for any candidate. Those are the rules. They're not too hard to understand.
What do the Republicans who spew this bullshit think, Biden drops out and Trump wins by forfeit? I can think of a number of reasons that a presumptive nominee, or even an official nominee, may not be able to continue his or her candidacy up to election day. The opponent doesn't win by forfeit.
What a fucking silly argument.

(69,444 posts)I voted for the Biden Harris ticket. The VP takes over as president if the president steps down.
In any case, it's none of the Republicans' business who the Democrats choose as our candidate.

(42,057 posts)Slightly different rules when the candidate is the incumbent, and already has a VP. Any candidate who was going to change VP would be expected/obligated to announce that before running in the primaries. That may be more of a norm than a formal rule, but Dems follow norms even when Uglicans refuse to honor them.

The problem is that people actually like Harris and WANT to vote for her. If their argument actually mattered to anyone, that person could refuse to vote for Harris or Democrats. As far as I can tell, no one who might have voted for Biden is actually mad about Harris taking his place.

(274 posts)You dont vote for the candidate.
In the general election you are voting for a slate of electors. We have seen instances of unfaithful electors.
In presidential primaries you vote for a slate of delegates. In this case the candidate has dropped out (his choice) and the elected delegates can vote for whoever they choose.
Maybe too difficult for the magats to figure out.

(55,334 posts)😆 well done!
If I have to hear the pedantic numbskulled "we're a republic, not a democracy" rant one more time, my head will explode. Once again they pretend to not understand a country, like a person, can be two things at once.

(12,709 posts)That's what they expected to happen.
So, pedo Trump and his corporate media, social media, Christian Nationalists and Russian troll enablers all went out and beat the 'Biden is too old and must drop out' drum constantly. But they expected Democrats would bow out and give over the election to pedo Trump. Or that if we did replace him, it would get us infighting, or picking a weaker opponent.
Then Biden did just what they wanted him to do and they are unhappy. They thought it would mean Trump automatically would win. But there were so many other possibilities besides Democrats just throwing up their hands and saying I quit.
They never thought out their stupid idea. There were other options for Dems for anyone to think Biden stepping down would automatically be a win for Trump.
But of course Pedo Trump can't think straight and even his pal Putin can't get the campaign on the road to a win. Maybe Musk's Nazi media platform will help.

(6,319 posts)We have not seen any challengers to Harris from any dem and 99% of delegates already pledged to Harris. Its not working. All dems I know are excited and far more enthusiastic about Harris. Even Pence posted a rare (first ever?) good thing about Bidens courage to drop out of the race for the good of the country which essentially read like an endorsement of Harris since he didnt step away from the presidency, only from running again.

(3,921 posts)They so badly wanted Biden dropping out to lead to infighting in the party.
They were convinced that Trump would be up against a weak, faltering Biden* or a party in disarray with an internal power struggle.
They thought they had this in the bag. So much so they didn't even try to gain center ground with their VP pick. From their point of view, everything was falling in place for a MAGA sweep. Biden was falling apart, Trump was invincible/ordained by God after surviving an assassination attempt. All of the imagery, albeit on the surface only and/or pushed by the media, was the strong Trump leading the party to victory over the feeble Democrats.
It didn't last. People united behind Kamala. Biden gained immense respect for his decision. Now the imagery is strength, unity, and stability with Harris and chaos with Trump.
They are desperate to change that, and all they can do is push lie after lie to try and convince people that the Democratic party is in disarray. They are failing and will continue to do so.
Now they will be talking about what a bad choice Harris made for VP. How she betrayed certain groups within the party by choosing Waltz over others. How people who supported other VP choices are turning against her. And so on and so on. This too will fail.
(* I am referring to their view of Biden - not trying say that Biden was actually weak or faltering in reality)
edited to add:
I think a lot of this comes from their thoughts on what would happen to the Republican party if Trump were to step down or otherwise not be able to run. Who would be able to unify them in that sort of chaos? How much struggle for power would there be then?
