(11,989 posts)The chief danger to Democratic unity is anti-Israel protesters.
I get it. Netanyahu is a war criminal and the US needs to re-examine its policies. However, if Trump wins, Gaza will be depopulated. The world loses if Trump wins.

(3,245 posts)Trump would only enable his buddy Netanyahu and make things worse. Though I wish Biden could do more to rein him in, he (unlike most presidents since Israel's founding in 1947) has at least acknowledged that Israel's hands aren't clean here.
I've encountered a handful of people who've pledged to vote for Jill Stein in recent weeks, largely because they think supporting Biden (or Harris) is to enable the g-word in Gaza. They don't get that their own pure consciences are worthless if we have to endure four more years of the abomination currently running on the Republican ticket.
Yes, we should speak out against violence - but doing so in a way that would only help Trump is seriously counterproductive.

(11,522 posts)With either party, the military industrial complex wins. End of story as all other differences are trivial by comparison. I selfishly, I guess, tend to to think our own democracy is vitally important, whereas he sees ending all our wars as vastly more important.

Ukraine certainly didn't want war, but they had no choice. Israel overreacted because Bibi is a jerk, but they were attacked first. Do you know what would happen to a nation tha failed to act on behalf of a longstanding ally which was attacked? Even without a treaty (and treaties are the law of the land according to the Constitution)? No ither nation would ever ally with it again. You think Donald Trump*'s shenanigans made other countries trust us less? Yes, they did. But he was obviously nuts, so we got the trust back. But if Joe had failed to provide aid to Israel in those first days, it have been decades or more before we regained any kind of trust from anyone. Joe has clearly had it with Bibi, and told him so recently. But he's not about to commit national suicide over him.

(25,038 posts)VP Harris mentioned Project 2025. I could not make out what they said, but her first response was, "This is a democracy and everyone has a voice. But I am speaking now."
When they continued, she gave the response quoted in the OP. The crowd shouted down the protesters with, "We've got your back!" And, "Kamala!"
At first I thought the protesters might be MAGA plants because of the timing of their attempt to disrupt the speech, when Harris mentioned Project 2025.
But later, when she said, "If you want Donald Trump, say that," I thought they might have been anti Israel protesters.
Maybe some of the cable shows or MTN will clarify what the protesters said and who they were.
But, Harris handled it well. They did not stop her from moving on with her speech.

(6,607 posts)That's where the whole "Let's go Brandon" nonsense started.
It was at a NASCAR post race interview where the southern hillbilly morons started shouting "FUCK JOE BIDEN" and
the interviewer thought they were saying "Let's go Brandon"
It went on a life of it's own afterward.
Thankfully, Joe Biden is WAY, WAY, WAY smarter than the Maggots and turned it aound with the "Dark Brandon" dis.....

(1,254 posts)You say things like that, people stop and listen. Get a little ashamed of being an idiot, maybe. I first used it in the military with lower ranked airmen, as the senior NCO in charge of about a hundred kids in that work program we used to have (Vista?) and then as a mom of sons. My boys to this day will shut up when they hear it.
It's not being rude or hateful, it's the tone that says "you better listen to me, right now, I ain't foolin' around and there will be consequences".
I think Kamala Harris has learned a lot in the last four years, and I also think she's decided to be the in-charge woman she always was before she campaigned for president. Republicans better hear her roar, and believe it.

(878 posts)So they don't really care if American women lose their rights or not they'll just rebut with, "think of how women in Gaza are living right now!"
The problem though is that many of them believe that Palestinians are the only people in the world who are suffering right now, and therefore, are the only people who need and deserve protections. They try to guilt people into not voting/voting third party by constantly beating the "you are privileged" and "you're a genocide enabler" drumbeats into easily impressionable young people's (including women's) minds.
Palestinian women DO matter but you shouldn't guilt trip and (whether directly or indirectly) punish other women who are suffering, either. It does absolutely nothing to help Palestinian women.
