and you're right it used to be light on the scent but I that was then and they may have "upped" the formula now. My Dad usedd to get bad razor burn if he didn't use a pre-shave. His neck would turn red and blotchy under the stubble.

Old Spice and lectra shave! If I could reach thru the screen and deliver a backhand, bout 10 of you need to go to the way back in the mini van. And hell no, I ain’t turning the AC up.

About the same age. When I was in my 20s Old Spice, Aqua Velva, and Hi Karate were for old guys without style. I never used aftershave or cologne. Lots of people also commented on how good I smelled au natural. 😊

Sometime around 20 years ago, I decided not to wear cologne any longer. Mind you, I never doused myself in anything, but I became aware that some people have severe allergic reactions., so I cut back on using it. cologne wasn’t cheap, even back then. Cheap bastid that I am, it was difficult to justify the cost of a bottle that may develop off-scents after sitting too long.

My first memories of men’s cologne was Old Spice. Back then, at least, old Old Spice was putrid. When it’s fresher, however, it’s OK. It’s the most common scent I detect in public.

I know Aqua Velva quite well. I once had an in-law with a drinking problem. That problem was drinking Aqua Velva as a clandestine method of getting his daily dosage of ethanol - on the job, family gatherings, etc. Suffice to say, he wasn’t fooling anyone. I steered clear of him, woofing his Aqua Velva and cigarette breath in your face. Made me gag once, I swear.

But we’re talking about Tim Walz here. Since he’s a man after my own heart, I like to think that his face takes on the world raw dog just like mine does as we go out and get things done.

Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle

by Suzy Le Helley

Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle is a neoclassical perfume with an irreverent twist; cool yet charming; new yet familiar; rough yet comfortable; innocent yet magnetic.

Acne Studios is not just a look. If anything, it is many looks, an ethos not easily encapsulated: functional, but eclectic, the opposite of basic.

Frédéric Malle tried to put Acne Studios in a bottle. For this special collaboration, he asked perfume prodigy Suzy Le Helley to author a powerful manifesto.

The composition is as such: a large amount of aldehydes, rose, violet and a touch of orange blossom; accords of vanilla and peach; generous notes of sandalwood; a touch of frankincense, and a sea of musk.
From utilitarian comfort to eccentric elegance, this seemed like an olfactory rendering of Acne Studios.

Aldehydes, Rose, Peach, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Musk

on a Northern Minnesota Lake with no running water. We took our baths in the lake. I had a rope swing in a tree and I would swing out and get wet.
Swim back to shore and about knee deep with my bar of ivory soap I would lather up. Swing back out and rinse off.

Since real soap is mostly fat, there is a good chance all soaps created from fat would float.

Most bars (Irish Spring for example) nowadays are detergents, which emulsify in water, break fats, protein and grease and likely would not float

I worked in a major department store while I was in college during the early 80s. Aramis was the #1 fragrance for men of all ages. Every single one of our stores would run out of it the holidays--including Valentine's and Father's Day.

No other men's fragrance sold like that.
