It's not rocket science. We do it every day, but somehow news organizations can't manage.
It's almost as if they're not there to report news but to generate revenue. Talking heads, no input into what is reported. Just there in hopes to get near to power.

(15,773 posts)The media might ask a thoughtful question, but the answer would be total gish gallop. None of the repugs ever answer any truly difficult questions.

(2,788 posts)that the reporters go into the interview with prepared questions from their producers and or editors.
They are not particularly well read up on the subtleties in the issues.
How often do we rethink our conversations regretting a mishandle or missed opportunity to get clarity?
We are news junkies and have time to ponder.
Politicians achieve a lot of their success with obfuscation and avoidance. They have image teams for their fans.
The Daily Show correspondent follow up to their unsuspecting idolators.
But even they don't ask the simple, "What makes you think that way, or why have you not considered this?"
Chuck Todd, revealed once, that he would not ask the hard questions on Meet The Press because he needed access to keep ratings.
Phil Donohue knew he couldn't get the big timers to Dayton so he contrived a different perspective. It was ALL about the questions.
That worked magic in Dayton, but not so well in New York.
We all lose in the ratings game. Least common denominator is all about the money.

Developing critical consciousness isn't automatic: it can take constant work to swim through that environment of pre-existing messages
