Election denier Tina Peters sentenced to nine years.

Judge called her a charlatan and a liar and said she would do it all over again without hesitation.

Fuck yeah!

Tina Peters is an American convicted felon who is the former County Clerk of Mesa County, Colorado. Described in 2022 as "one of at least twenty-two election deniers vying to take charge of elections in eighteen states", she was the first election official in the U.S. convicted of criminal charges related to stolen election conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 United States presidential election. In August 2024, she was convicted on charges relating to unauthorized access to election machines.

I heard the speech the judge gave her and I couldn’t have been prouder of our justice system, if only for that moment. That same speech would have worked well on trump, too. The judge told her several times that it’s not all about her.

If anybody runs across that footage, it should be posted because it is the most on-target judge dress-down that I have ever heard.

I’m so thrilled that she got this sentence.

On edit: does anyone remember when the police had to haul her out of the coffee shop? That was a good laugh but it also showed how she thinks the law is for other people, not her.

“I probably put in three, four or five, maybe $800,000, of my own money,” Lindell told reporters outside the Colorado Capitol. Lindell then called a Colorado Sun reporter, and his questions, “stupid.”

“Another stupid question by a stupid journalist,” Lindell said.

Colorado’s Constitution prohibits elected officials from accepting a gift greater than $65, including for travel.

Personal life
Peters lives in Grand Junction, Colorado. She and her husband, Thomas Peters, had a daughter and a son. Their son, Remmington J. Peters, a combat veteran serving in the US military as a Navy SEAL, died in 2017 at age 27 in a parachute accident performing at an air show in New York City.[98][99][100]

She legally separated from her husband in June 2017 and filed a decree of legal separation in January 2018. At the time, she had power of attorney over her husband's affairs for health reasons. The couple officially divorced in November 2021. On October 2, 2021, Peters filed a quit-claim deed for a home that Thomas Peters had purchased separately eight months after the couple separated. A civil complaint filed by Thomas Peters, which later included his sister, Katherine Egan, alleged that Tina Peters filed the quit-claim deed "through deceit and deception".[101] Thomas Peters' daughter Cayce joined Egan as a plaintiff in a civil suit against Tina Peters on behalf of the estate of her father as his personal representative, alleging the quit-claim deed was filed, placing the house in her own name, on the same day her power of attorney over Thomas Peters was rescinded.[98]

"I did my best to serve this county and I hope you find it in your heart to not sentence me to… I don't deserve to be in prison. I can do a lot more good, a lot more good out helping people," said Peters. "If you tell me not to talk about the election, I won't talk about the election."

Thu Oct 3, 2024, 04:21 PM
Oct 3

I wonder how many there are by now. Not just in his political career, but going back years, including all the people he ruined financially by not paying them what he owed them.

We know that everything Trump touches dies. But for every one of those "deaths" (literal or figurative), there is a ripple effect of others (relatives, friends, associates) who are harmed.

The trail of destruction left by this one individual is immeasurable...and it continues as we speak and will continue to do so as long as he is still on his planet. Putting him behind bars would slow him down, probably a lot, but even there he will still have the power to cause trouble (albeit on a smaller scale) as long as there are people on the outside who are willing to help him communicate with whatever ragtag remnant of miscreants still support him.

It's really mind boggling how much damage can stem from the evil perpetrated by one single person. There's a reason I sometimes call him the Orange Hellbeast. His ability to create and foster hate and evil and channel those things to his own benefit seems almost supernatural sometimes.

No, I don't really believe there's anything supernatural about him. I just can't think of a better way to capture the sheer extent of his malevolence than to call him a beast from hell (which I also don't literally believe in). To me, he is and always will be the Orange Hellbeast.
