General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell, it's over folks. MSNBC says Harris campaign is failing
Of course this is the noon hour.
But they had Kasich on saying the campaign has failed because Harris went into preemptive defense when they didnt have the lead. And he said Who is Liz Cheney? She represents no one
I swear, MSNBC is almost as bad as the NYT.
They are attempting to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Allowing Kasich to spout off as if Harris has failed without challenging him is journalistic malpractice. Wait.. what am I thinking.. journalism is on life support in this country.
Rant off.

You know the difference between opinion and reporting, too.
angrychair
(12,195 posts)That is not couched as opinion but as reporting.
Fuck Republicans. So tired of news organizations and websites platforming these assholes as if their opinions on the Democratic Party is more valid than actual fucking Democrats.
If you are a Republican or old school Democratic Party traditionalist like Carville or Axelrod, your opinion is literally meaningless to me.
These people bring nothing of value on how to run a presidential campaign in 2024. There are ZERO similarities between the America of Bill Clinton or Bush Sr. and today.
maxsolomon
(38,580 posts)Like you, many DUers don't think they should see ANY Repukes on their TV talking about anything. That's just not realistic for "mainstream" Cable Channels.
Cirsium
(3,864 posts)They give these people a platform, disproportionate to the value they bring to the discussion and the importance or relevance of their opinions, and they do a piss poor job of challenging them. This goes on blatantly, day after day.

maxsolomon
(38,580 posts)It's not easy. MSNBC and CNN have to struggle to find Repukes that aren't pathological liars. They've settled on Kasich. Deal or change the channel.
If you really want to be appalled, watch an interview with any Repuke Senator. 100x worse. They live on Earth 2.
Cirsium
(3,864 posts)We know that or the most part they don't believe the things they say.
Politics is not about personal choice, it isn't shopping. Ergo, "deal or change the channel" doesn't apply. By "change the channel" do you mean to say that it is merely a personal choice issue and not a serious social and political issue?? By "deal" do you mean accept this state of affairs and keep quiet about it?
maxsolomon
(38,580 posts)He may or may not believe everything he says. He certainly won't back down. "Never back down" is the only credo Repukes live by.
MSNBC & CNN are going to have representatives from "both sides". As policy, they do not want to be openly partisan, although they're going to be accused of it, just like the nefarious NYT, by both sides.
If you can't deal with it, go ahead, post on DU implying that paid commentor opinions are the official reportage of the station. Post that a guest editorial in the NYT is Arthur Sulzberger putting a thumb on the scale. I can't stop you.
Cirsium
(3,864 posts)What is this "if you can't deal with it?" I am dealing with it, the way I chose to deal with it, by criticizing the platforming of liars.
I didn't say "paid commenter opinions are the official reportage of the station" and I wouldn't say that. I didn't say that "a guest editorial in the NYT is Arthur Sulzberger putting a thumb on the scale."
Yes, I know that MSNBC & CNN are going to have representatives from "both sides". If that policy means giving equal time to liars, then it is time for us to criticize that policy.

(38,580 posts)or WaPo, or "the Media". It's not difficult: guest commentary is not the official opinion of the news organization.
I get that hearing anything on TV from a lying Repuke when we're teetering on the brink of Autocracy may be upsetting, but providing a diversity of opinions is what "the Media" HAS TO DO.
Cirsium

(3,864 posts)It would be more honest if MSNBC did openly express right wing talking points, rather than just giving those talking points endless air time and then playing innocent. Just remember that nobody believed Cassandra anyway.
In any case there are more than a few positive signs for the Harris campaign, the most obvious one being the huge turnout in early voting which almost always skews heavily Democratic.

John Kasich makes play for the misogynist vote: He wants women out of the doctor's office and into the kitchen
John Kasich slashes Planned Parenthood funding on the same day he gives a speech mentioning women in their kitchens

Gov. John Kasich is still in the race and still trying to frame himself as the moderate, compassionate Republican, but on Monday, the governor issued two glaring reminders of his very un-moderate contempt for women. During a campaign event, in a video that went viral almost instantaneously, Kasich made a comment about his female supporters that was as bizarrely unnecessary as it was condescending.
"How did I get elected?" Kasich said. "I didn't have anybody for me. We just got an army of people, and many women who left their kitchens to go out and to go door to door to put up yard signs for me." He did not specify if they untied their aprons or put on their shoes.
Later, a woman in the audience decided to confront him, sort of, on this. "I'll support you," she said. "But I won't be coming out of the kitchen."
"I gotcha," he replied. It read like a morality play about life as a female conservative, an on-the-nose illustration of how you'll never get anything more than condescending head pats if you keep supporting men who refuse to offer basic respect in return.
The whole thing would just be a comical distraction, if it weren't for the fact that Kasich applies this loathing for female independence to his policy choices. The same day he was spinning out this fantasy of women living a kitchen-centric lifestyle, he also signed a bill drastically slashing access to affordable contraception services for women in his state.

She is there mainly for Republican wives.
I live in Kansas, we have had 2 Democratic Governors , both Female.
There aren't enough Dems to elect a Male Governor here, but a Female somehow can do it.
It's the wives.
