(17,337 posts)Is this something you planned as in -
the moon's up on x days let me look for a jet that seems to be heading in it's direction.
Or
As ou're zooming into the moon (and thinking of some Moon song) you catch a jet heading in it's direction out of the corner of your eye and you go "Aha!".
Wonderful Pic whether by plan or serendipity.

(9,311 posts)Of course no expectation of success, it's all a crap-shoot to get a direct hit, which is relatively rare, lots of near hits.
I'm all about the long reach in photography, long lenses give a different perspective to normal vision. The moon is huge because it was taken with a 1200mm lens. I live in north Tampa, and 15 miles to the west of me is the flight path for planes coming from up north, to Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and Palm Beach. This is before they begin to descend, so they are at maximum altitude. When the moon is in the right position, I can be found with my camera on a tripod and my laptop on a site that shows every airplane in the air, airframe registration, plane type. (globe.adsbexchange.com), and another site that shows origin and destination for all planes (flightradar24.com). This particular plane is a G600 at 45k ft and 15nm distance heading to Miami. I am particularly proud of this one, although there are many more to see.
