(37,540 posts)These primaries seem to be consistent in one regard - low turnout. There's a huge Republican segment voting for "none of the above". I think they are the ones not bothering to vote.

(4,667 posts)Hardcore GOPers are most likely to turn out. Those are Gingrich supporters. Romney is counting on more moderates and independents. Plus in all three contests so far, support for Romney among his supporters has always been soft.

(17,111 posts)A few hiccups and raindrops have not dampened what could be a good turnout in the S.C. Republican presidential primary on Saturday.
And a potential political storm was avoided this morning after front-runners Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were both scheduled to arrive at Tommys Country Ham House in Greenville at 10:45 a.m.

Voting appears to be brisk today.
By 11:30 a.m., vote totals were at 300 at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian in Lexington County and 169 at Cooper, 136 at Trenholm Road and 74 at Shandon Fire Department in Richland County. All of those are about half of the totals for the 2008 Republican primary turnout.

(17,111 posts)the voter turnout is hard to call. It is very heavy in some places and not so much others. Some of it is weather related, and some others are gawd only knows. Could be big sales at Dollar General or something.
I still think Newt will win. He will get the huge spite and malice vote. If one thing motivates RW evangelicals, it's spite and malice.
