Even those who work for TYT are getting tired of Cenk & Ana's BS:

Don't watch if you don't like it. It's like abortion. Don't have one if you don't like it.

(2,172 posts)A few days ago a comment was posted to the effect that wouldn't it be nice, instead of posting videos that we have to watch for 30 minutes, we posted the written content of the video.
I may be just an old grouch, but I have NEVER watched a video that was posted as a comment. When I click on a headline to read a diary and find a video, I simply click on past it.

(66 posts)Before I watch a video that I don't really care much about, I'd like to know what TYT is. Not all of us speak in abbreviations of lesser known things.

(17,389 posts)Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian who claim to be progressives, (and were liberal at some point) but lately, they seem to be in that space where left and right meet at the back of the circle of politics and they have become quite trumpy.

(17 posts)and the acronym "TYT" only brought to mind another acronym "WTF"
It is difficult enough to keep up with all of the 'kul (cool)' acronyms for our soon be overlord Trump.
In spite of what some famous person once said about design where "Less is more", when it comes to clearly communicating, often "Less is Just Less" and communication (which requires both communicants to actually understand what is being communicated) does not occur.

(2,451 posts)The show's name Young Turks has been criticized and called for change due to the Committee of Union and Progress' conflation with the larger Young Turks political movement in the Ottoman Empire which was responsible for committing the Armenian genocide, the Assyrian genocide, and the Greek genocide. Alex Galitsky, who works for the Armenian National Committee of America, stated "If a group decided to call themselves the Young Nazis, and pitched themselves as a disruptor or anti-establishment news outlet, people would be rightly outraged".
In 1991, Cenk Uygur wrote an article in The Daily Pennsylvanian, the student newspaper of the University of Pennsylvania, in which he promoted Armenian genocide denial. In 2016, Cenk Uygur posted a statement on TYT's website in which he rescinded his Armenian Genocide denial statements, arguing: "My mistake at the time was confusing myself for a scholar of history, which I most certainly am not. I dont want to make the same mistake again, so I am going to refrain from commenting on the topic of the Armenian Genocide, which I do not know nearly enough about." In response to the criticism he has explained that the name of the show was chosen because it is a popular colloquialism traditionally meaning a young radical who fights the status quo.
Cenk Uygur a hypocritical grifting lying asshole.

(2,451 posts)i know many here gave up on TYT a while ago. But to say nothing has changed is disingenuous. The problem isn't TYT as a whole, it is specifically Cenk & Anna. They may not have ever been some people's cup of tea but they at least generally advocated for most progressive policies when they started. But they have drifted further and further from progressive positions for a long time. Now they are openly advocating for MAGA viewpoints. It's really disgusting. That is why Mondale quit and many others have done so in the past year. There are still some good people working there. Hopefully, they join their progressive brothers and sisters and quit as well.

(11,714 posts)We've lost the streaming battle. The free channels are 99% right leaning. TYT does not help us reach anyone. They just make us look like fools.
I hope our new Dem leaders address our media problem. We can't message if we can't reach the people "where they're at".

(2,451 posts)I don't pay close attention to that stuff. I know that the right wing media (podcasts and other online programming) does attract bigger audiences than the left. But there are lots of solid left wing podcasters and tons of good youtube channels, many of which do post some of their material live.
berniesandersmittens
(11,714 posts)There's the usual streaming of abc, nbc, CBS, and fox. These are not the same as their cable counterparts. There is Newsmax2, War room, America First, and Real America Voices that are on it. TYT is the only one that leans left.
Honestly I believe that CSPan should have a free steaming channel.
Sure, there are podcasts that lean left. They just aren't on the free streaming of my Samsung tv.
Wiz Imp
(2,451 posts)Based on that, you've got a great point about the need for more left leaning content there. TYT, at least any program that features Cenk and/or Ana, isn't even really left anymore. At least they have a few contributors who still seem to be fighting for Progressive causes but not nearly enough.

(11,714 posts)I posted above that Cspan should be included on free streaming tvs. I can't afford to pay for cable or upgrade to paid streaming.
If we have to do a deep dive to find progressive news..... we are losing the media battle. Imho

(37,467 posts)The Right has funded theirs for decades, and have created an entire RW media ecosphere.
Meanwhile, on our side, people say "Air America proved that doesn't work", as if one poorly-managed radio experiment was ironclad proof for all time across all media. But back in the Bush days, Vladimir Putin was happy to make RT available to people critical of the US administration. And who got on board? People who wouldn't shift gears and stayed in "protest and complain" mode and got even louder at Obama and Democrats.
Liberal bloggers and others who had criticisms but still wanted to work with Democrats and who recognized the Right was still a threat were left relying on tip jars and being kicked to the curb. People need to be able to support themselves, and promotion is needed to put stuff in front of more eyeballs. But there's little funding to do that, and most of what there is seems to go to "ex"-Republicans (seen on Tee Vee) who made videos against Trump that liberals would like, but in the end didn't move the needle one bit (and still grouse about us when they talk to each other).

(11,714 posts)How about trying to get news out first, like PBS and CSpan?
We could try to utilize what we already have. We're waaauy behind but must start somewhere.
Of course I'm arm chair brainstorming, as I have no money or connections.

(37,467 posts)It tanked and closed down in 2016. I'm shocked, SHOCKED that a media empire run by a member of the Qatari ruling family picked a name that would play well at home but wasn't exactly focus-group tested for how the name would play here in the States.
Relevant to this general discussion, from from 2011 to 2013, The Young Turks actually aired on Current TV.

(186 posts)I have been watching on and off for yrs but Ana/Cenk screaming and screeching about everything and the both side bullshit . I stopped watching. I will watch the video later.
But,of course,of course! They are so damn irritating.
A friend of mine called me during the campaign saying how much she couldn't stand Ana,she had only been watching for a couple of months.

(2,451 posts)In late November 2024, Kasparian referred to Gavin Newsom as the worst governor in the country "By A LOT." She also lashed out against leftists, left-wing policies on climate change and homelessness, and the Democratic Party. In an early December interview with conservative commentator Glenn Beck on his The Blaze network, Kasparian lambasted Democrats over immigration issues and credited Republican Texas governor Greg Abbott with raising her awareness about the migrant crisis. She also referred to Democratic legislators in California as "grifters" due to their position on immigration issues.
She is now full blown MAGA and Cenk isn't far behind her. What horrible, horrible people they are.

(24,337 posts)and other such nonsense. I dropped these people years and years ago, when I first truly listened to Cent, I said to myself, Whoa, what did I get into? Haven't ever been back, can't force myself to even listen to one word. Makes me glad for a lot of these 'channels' are always seeming to beg for money to stay afloat. Not if your talk is this kind of garbage. No way.
