Does Newt's success tonight show the great conservative crack up that many political analysts have been predicting for years? The conservative alliance, christian evangelical fundies, Wall Streeters, Libertarians, and old money types, was always a shaky alliance that could not hold. Too many conflicts among each group, and soon, there would be a the great conservative crack up.

Well, it's here, and it's name is Newt Gingrich, The Bastard Out of Carolina.

that's why. They don't have a centralized figure who can address their big tent in a way that is meaningful. As much as I hate Raygun, he apparently was able to do it. Poppy and Shrub didn't have the panache so they either bought their way in or frauded their way in.

Newt tonight was following the Jesse Helms playbook that Reagan first used to win the 1976 primary.

Times have changed, but not that much. The Dixiecrat message still sells nationwide. Food Stamps anyone? Liberal Elites? Dirty, lazy godless commie pinko hippie preverts [sic] who hate the USA and should just move to Cuba or North Korea.
