Democratic lawmakers blocked from entering USAID building

BBC Live updates
Phil McCausland

We've just heard from the group of Democrats who attempted to enter the USAID building in Washington to gather more information about the Trump administration's alleged effort to dismantle the US aid agency.

Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, who seems to be leading the group, said that the lawmakers entered the building "on behalf of the American people" in an effort to gather answers.

Van Hollen claims they were "denied entry" based on an order by Elon Musk and his Doge representatives.

"This was an illegal power grab by someone who donated $275m to Trump’s campaign," Van Hollen claims.

The group said they were also referred to the State Department, which the Trump administration reportedly plans to take over the USAID agency. Democrats claim such a move would be illegal because only an act of Congress would allow for such a change.

Who has that authority, and why didn't they tell whomever to blow it out their ass? Were these individuals going to pepper spray them, handcuff them, shoot them?

I don't understand how this could happen, members of Congress blocked entry into a federal building. They need to bring some muscle next time, and use it if necessary!

Isn’t it their jurisdiction ?

The USCP is responsible for law enforcement and security within the Capitol Complex, including the U.S. Capitol building, the Capitol Visitor Center, Capitol grounds, the House and Senate office buildings, the U.S. Botanic Garden, Capitol Police buildings, Library of Congress buildings, and adjacent grounds

Denying access to a Federal Government building by a group of United States Members of Congress. This is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of. We are truly heading for Banana Republic status.

Trump was able to bring a few hundred armed people to DC.

Is it about time for the rest of us to show up? Armed or not? Build a gallows on the Mall, drag out Muskrat? He's not an official and has no Secret Service or police protection.
