The Senate GOP have an ace in their hole and Schumer knows it

They would kill the filibuster if the govt. shutdown and it dragged on and on. Schumer doesn't want the filibuster gone. If so, we'd REALLY be in trouble as a nation. Every nutty idea Trump has would actually get codified into law. The thought is terrifying.

1. Be prepared, for this is going to be a very unpopular opinion here at DU.

And if what you posted had come to pass, 20/20 hindsight would be rife here.

Because if we ever try to use it, they will just get rid of it. Do you see the big hole in that logic?

They'd happily allow Senate Democrats to filibuster as long as we'd like. It'd unfairly put 100% of the blame on us. Krasnov would massively consolidate power during the shutdown.

The filibuster will stick as long as it's used in a generally decorous manner. The entire reason it wasn't nuked to begin with is that it's an extremely powerful maneuver and they all recognize the power of having that option available themselves.

5. I do not agree with this. They would have been happy to keep the government shutdown indefinitely.

And frankly, it is very unlikely that there are 50 Republicans willing to kill the filibuster over any issue in the next 4 years.

In the long run, it favors them.

6. So basically the Democrats should vote for every nutty idea Trump has

because if they don't then the Republikkans will eliminate the filibuster and every nutty idea Trump has will become law.
Okay.
I don't think your logic would garner many points in a debate competition

Their majority in the Senate is permanent. It doesn't matter what our side does.

It was characterized as anti democracy. For some reason, that sentiment disappeared rather quickly last Fall.
