Nugent: Cut "Social Welfare Programs" Because Poverty Is Based On "Poor Decisions" "We Need To Punish"

December 19, 2011 6:35 am ET

by Media Matters staff

In his December 16 Washington Times column, Ted Nugent wrote that "{b}eing poor is largely a choice, a daily, if not hourly decision," and that "we need to punish poor decisions instead of rewarding them. We cannot continue to offer a safety blanket to those Americans who make poor choices. The fewer social welfare programs, the better." From the Times:

Being poor is largely a choice, a daily, if not hourly, decision. If you decide to drop out of school, fail to learn a skill, have no work ethic or get divorced, a life of poverty is often the consequence. The children of parents who choose a life of poverty quite often pay a horrible price, and so does all of America.

Poverty rates among college graduates, those who learn a trade or skill and parents who stay married are much lower than the rates among those who choose opposite paths. As author William J. Bennett pointed out a number of years ago in his book "The Index of Leading Cultural Indicators," children of single parents are much more likely to be involved in crime and premarital sex, to drop out of school and to get involved with drugs. Ugly and uncomfortable as that may be, it's the truth.

Nugent Celebrates Labor Day By Bashing Unions

September 03, 2011 1:55 pm ET

by Media Matters staff

In his September 2 Washington Times column, Ted Nugent wrote that "[t]he real purpose of Labor Day is a day for the Democratic Party to celebrate" and that AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka is an "Al Capone-wannabe." Nugent further wrote that the stimulus was "a giant, taxpayer-funded payoff for labor unions to vote for Democrats" and a "scam."

From Nugent's column:

The real purpose of Labor Day is a day for the Democratic Party to celebrate. Labor unions and their members are solidly in the Democratic camp. At every Democratic campaign rally, Big Labor is there.

Al Capone-wannabe Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-See-I'm-Sleeping, has been recently grumbling about giving less money to the Democratic Party because the party has not given labor unions everything they want. Mr. Trumka knows, however, that when push comes to shove, the AFL-CIO will provide Democrats with stacks of cash as they always have.

Ted Nugent Refuses Interview After Seeing Questions

August 01, 2011 2:08 pm ET

by Joe Strupp

Ted Nugent would rather talk about his 'I Still Believe' concert tour than his history of controversial rhetoric.

But as anyone familiar with both his concerts and his views knows, the two are strongly intertwined. In fact, the name of his current tour is also the name of his seminar at the National Rifle Association conference.

So when Nugent's tour was set to come to New Jersey, where I live, last week I sought to set up an interview.

I wanted to ask the NRA board member about: his view that health care reform supporters are pigs; calling the Muslim community "rude and stupid"; and his statement that those who even say "gun control" should go to jail.

And of course his comments during a 2007 concert that described then-Senator Barack Obama as a "piece of shit" and referred to then-Senator Hillary Clinton as a "worthless bitch."

Or ever was for that matter. And as far as his Union bashing, I imagine the AF of M, the Musicians Union just loves that. They should just throw his wrinkled draft dodging ass out if he is a member.
I once saw Nugget live (I was a misguided youth) and he said, "Fuck you Jimi Hendrix". If Hendrix would have heard that, maybe he could have hit ol' teddy in the head with a guitar instead of burning it.

You ran the night that you left me
You put me in my place
I got you in a stranglehold, baby
Then I crushed your face.

Nugent wasn't even originally the lead singer of this song, a man named Derek St. Holmes sang the vocals until Ted got a case of the wah-wah-s about not garnering all of the attention.

Nearly every VW beetle is driven by women, why? obviously VW markets to them. So! WHY is VW using this misogynistic, violent song?

This bow-toting nutbag is not someone with whom any corporation should be married to.

Here are the lyrics:

The outrage! Does this mean I must go out and sell my Jetta that gets great fuel mileage and gets my husband to work and back, 60 miles per day?

is this the only conclusion you can come up with?

Don't believe anyone here would want you to sell your Jetta. However, it is worthy of discussion that VW is using such a violent song to sell cars. Can you agree with that?

I pre-ordered their special edition turbo. Saw one in person. Canceled my order.

Walked across the street to the Chevy dealership and bought a 2012 Camaro.

This year Volkswagen 'de-Europeanized' most of their American offerings, basically making them Toyotas.

VW needs to notice that Toyota sales are tanking.

Oh, and Ted Nugent is an un-American chickenshit, who can only express himself these days with a gun.
