Right Wing GOP idiots, all of them!
If anyone tries to convince you that the NRA is a non-partisan group just look at this list and also remember Ted Nugent is on their board of directors.

A guy who was the House Majority leader and won his seat in Texas by completely redrawing the entire state because he knew he wouldn't get votes otherwise (DeLay).
A sociopathic conspiracy theorist who draws on a chalkboard and uses more Nazi references than the History Channel (Glenn Beck).
A dimwitted half term Alaskan governor who isn't fit to be mayor of Farmville. (Palin)
A treasonous asshole who sold weapons to countries run by ruthless drug lords (North).
A UN ambassador who doesn't believe in the UN (Bolton).
And a psychopathic religious nut job who believes in end times prophecies (Huckabee).
Bunch of truly outstanding citizens there.

Of COURSE it's a partisan organization.
Yes, it's true that there are a few Blue Dog Democrats who blather about '2nd amendment rights' in order to win in selected states, with the intent of getting SOME NRA money (ie- 1/10 the amount the Republican opponent is getting), and a FEW votes from crackpot gun nuts.
But here is what I think the Democrats should do about that. The current strategy is for Democrats to suck up to the gun lobby in states that lean conservative, while both Democrat and Republican ignore the gun issue in states that lean liberal.
WE NEED TO FLIP THAT STRATEGY ON IT'S HEAD.
1. Ignore the gun control ('gun safety') issue in conservative states, admitting we're in favor of gun safety laws, while
2. GOING AFTER Republicans on the Gun Safety issue in liberal states.
ie-Use the Gun Safety issue specifically to TAKE DOWN Republicans in liberal states, while ignoring it in conservative states.
The result will be that Democrats will lose a few seats in conservative states, but gain MANY MORE seats in liberal states, and even swing states, if the plan is applied wisely.
For 50 years the gun issue has been a wedge issue that Republicans have used against Democrats, and Democrats have obliged. TURN IT AROUND! The country has changed enough that this wedge issue can now be turned back on them, just like women's reproductive rights and gay marriage have both been turned back on them.

If they were running the country we could all rest easy because by December 21, in two days, the world would truly end just like in the predictions. What fun!
