(48,955 posts)the irony is mindnumbing.
The ridiculous expectations per such policies are also mindnumbing.
The first accident (predictable) will morph teachers back into incompetents (per rw rhetoric about teachers prior to this week.)
It will also result in a huge law suit. Can the state legislature (that is state govt) be held liable?

(946 posts)Teachers: Bad.
Guns: Good.
People with guns: Good.
More people with guns: Good!
See, People with guns cannot be bad, therefore Teachers with guns is good. Everything else that teachers want is still bad, but teachers with guns is a good thing, in their minds.
I still think it's a horrible idea.

(81,320 posts)Glad you're here! I think they just don't really grasp what it is they're wishing for. Which is a coast-to-coast DIY unregulated yer-on-yer-own, every-man-for-himself Shoot-Out at the OK Corral. In which the "good guys" always win and are always far better shots than the bad guys are. And the good guys can nail the bad guys while moving, bouncing around on horseback, while the bad guys are moving at the same time, and with a single shot blow the bad guys' heads off. You know, just like they do in the movies! Instant Rambo meets Will Smith! Carnage on Parade! Cool, 'eh? Always works - every time!
The ridiculously weird world-view these people have - I swear, it's just staggering. Completely dumbfounding!

(21,163 posts)I learned about unions watching that movie. It was such a strange era to us now knowing they went on strike for a 3 cents raise. The people made enough money to live on because of union wages! I have pajama game in VHS makes me want to watch it again.

(23,156 posts)went on strike. I just did a quick google search and could not locate the specifics, but the were wanting something like an extra 10 cents an hour. I know that some twenty years ago, well before the internet and google, I stumbled across some information about the strike and was astonished at how little they seemed to be asking.
During that strike, my younger brother who was trying to fly from upstate NY to Tucson, AZ, got stuck for a day or two in Las Vegas, NV.

Not sure what happened with me.
I've seen that movie, by the way.

(17,204 posts)The most sacred and untouchable right in the Western world is property. Those who think it is life are laboring under a fatal misconception. If you will keep this truth always at the front of your mind, then much that the RW does will become clear to you.

(15,774 posts)when you are dead. Until then you are an uppity teacher demanding to live off the government tit.
How about some funding in education to prevent this from happening. And I don't mean metal detectors. If we had more counselors and psychiatrists in school, we would not need metal detectors.

(1,273 posts)in 18 of the 24 states that voted for Romney, it is legal for teachers to beat at the children? I read this in my German newspaper today, I have no link, but they cited a survey from Human Rights Watch: in 2009 more than 200.000 thousand children in the USA (most of them living in the southern states) were battered by their teachers.

(15,774 posts)Texas went for Romney. I promise you....If you raise a hand to a child in Houston ISD, you will have your certification yanked so fast. And many schools are the same way. It might be legal but it doesn't happen, esp in the larger cities and districts.
My adopted niece was an abused child. They had corporal punishment in her school. My brother and SIL told the school in no uncertain terms was she was not to be spanked (and she had aggressive tendencies because of this). They told the school that should they have a problem-they could be reached by phone and someone would be down there in less than 10 minutes. She never under went any corporal punishment at the school. She has never been spanked since her adoption but she had been chastised to tears a few times and slammed more than her share of doors. They really had to do some heavy anger management training with her.

(21,086 posts)Setting aside the current tragedy, this present love in' by the media toward educators is like a bad case of lousy make up sex.
Don't worry we'll all be carrying guns soon and then that can become a part of the evaluation. After that, all we have to do is take the kids in our homes and raise em' up. After that, we'll pay for their college.
