As a teenager, Adam Lanza would come in for a haircut about every six weeks without speaking or looking at anyone and always accompanied by his mother, said stylists at a Newtown salon.
He stopped coming in a few years ago, and the employees at the salon thought he had moved away, said stylist Bob Skuba.
The comments from him and his colleagues were among the first describing how the Lanzas interacted with each other. Investigators have found no letters or diaries that could explain the attack, one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.
Cutting Adam Lanza's hair 'was a very long half an hour. It was a very uncomfortable situation,' stylist Diane Harty said. She said that she never heard his voice and that Nancy Lanza also hardly spoke.
Another stylist, Jessica Phillips, echoed their descriptions of the Lanzas and added that Nancy Lanza would give her son directions about what to do and where to go.
Adam would move only 'when his mother told him to,' Skuba said.
'I would say, "Adam, come on." He wouldn't move,' Skuba said.
'And his mother would have to say, "Adam, come on, he's ready." It was like I was invisible.'
He said Adam also wouldn't move from his chair after his hair was cut until his mother told him to.
If a stylist would ask Adam a question, Skuba said, his mother would answer.
'He would just be looking down at the tiles ... the whole time,' Skuba said.

(28,876 posts)Perhaps the gun he was allowed to have. He could have located the keys to the gun safe after murdering her. The damage done to his computer suggests that he was active around the house after killing her.

(17,064 posts)There are conflicting stories whether he was allowed to shoot at range with mother.
We don't know how the mother's guns were secured, or if. We don't know how son got a hold of them. We don't know if ammunition was kept at house, or if son purchased it. There's a whole lot we don't know, so best not jump to conclusions.

(13,755 posts)She thought she had taught him to be responsible with guns, she also seems to have had a much different mindset about them than most people i know. I think she realized he was a troubled kid but I'm almost positive she never imagined half of what he was capable of

(28,552 posts)... do people with NO INFORMATION in a case that has already been fraught with more misinformation than any I can remember, make so many ridiculous suppositions?
Ok, here's one for you to consider while you are so sure the mom was an idiot leaving guns lying around.
There are two basic kinds of safes, open with a key and open with a combination. A key, no matter how well you think it is hidden, can be found. A combination for one of these safes would almost certainly be written down somewhere (if you "forget" it you have a real problem on your hands) and no matter how safely hidden the combination it can be found.
I don't really understand why the cops are keeping so quiet about this case but they certainly are. There isn't going to be a trial, so why all the hush hush? They could answer a lot of these questions but they choose not to. Speculate about THAT.

(6,700 posts)Kids with Aspergers are not able to connect with people socially. Aspergers is a sensory and social disorder. My son has it and is the same way. He doesnt know how to make eye contact or notice a smile. It doesnt make them monsters. Sorry you were so uncomfortable with the half hour of your time. Imagine being in their shoes! Thats not why he killed people. It was probably Sandy Hook where he was first diagnosed with having Aspergers. He probably attended school in one of those two class rooms he shot in. Perhaps when he attended there, thats where the special education classes were taught. Maybe he killed them to spare them. Maybe in his twisted mind he thought Aspergers is why he thought he was being "tossed away" by his mother and wanted to save the children from disappointing the world. What was going on in his head was not in any way related to actually having aspergers. He had a mental illness co-morbid. He killed mom first so she didnt stop him.
I still contend the mother should not have have weapons, enough to start a small war.

(17,064 posts)There's a whole lot of motive theories, who can know which is true? Even if alive, it doesn't appear he could communicate his motive. May be clues on the hard drive he smashed, I hope investigators can restore it.

(89,252 posts)but the dad especially. the divorce did not happen until recently. wasn't the killer 17 when it happened. so he was in his life for most of it.
they say the brother had no contact with the killer for like 2 years which is unusual and shows there was a problem.

(27,315 posts)And this is not even recent. Who knows what the person interviewed actually remembered and what she said because it went according to what she read in the paper.
I would have hoped DU knows better.

(11,065 posts)for demonizing one of the victims. Never mind that they just make shit up, twist quotes when they even bother to put a name to them and none of it is said in a single reputable news source.
Gossip rags and tabloids are not a news source.
