Please sign this petition on the White House site to sensibly reform gun laws, and pass it around.

http://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/increase-discussion-regulation-and-taxation-assault-weapons-using-article-2section-3-constitution/JZKxN37J

so if this gets 25,000 signatures in a month, they have to discuss it at a white house policy meeting and decide who replies to it.

since article 2,sec 3 means obama, maybe he'll actually say something..

worth a try. thats the whole thing below.

we petition the obama administration to:
Increase the Discussion, Regulation and Taxation of assault weapons by using Article 2,Section 3 of the Constitution

to convene a Special Commission of 51 Senators to create legislation to:

1. collect a 25% tax on all new gun purchases, used for improving our nation's mental health screening and care.

2. change firearm laws to be similar to automobile laws, requiring titles, training, testing, insurance, and inspection for guns, and declare guns with clips holding 7 or more bullets to be assault style.

3. create an internet forum for citizens to participate in a rational discussion of the epidemic of gun violence, and begin to reduce the influence of pro-gun lobbies.

While gun ownership is a right, the word right means both "a just claim or title" and "adherence to moral and legal principles and authority." There are more guns than cars in America, and the amount of laws should reflect that.

this petition. Think about it. If I am to be living under a freeway overpass I will need a gun to take myself out rather than have a whacko do it.

Gang members in America this is really gonna suck. Will you be setting different times for different gangs to keep them separated for rule #2 or first come first serve?

More than 1.4 million Americans are wearing the colors of more than 33,000 gangs across the country, according to a report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Based on evidence from federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, the FBI says gangs commit 48% of violent crime, and are only becoming more dangerous. Some even source weapons from the military.

The petition sounds like some out of touch with the real world soccer mom wrote it.
We do need to change our gun laws but let's put a little more thought into it and as you can see a forum for citizens to participate in a rational discussion is beyond reality but should be fun to read.

it looks bad for you when you start preaching at someone about a topic they (I) am already aware of.

do you know anything about gangs "sourcing" their weapons from states that have weak laws, or even "gun shows" in states with stricter laws, and moving them all over the country?

what is your point? gangs have too many guns, but laws to keep them away from gangs are a bad idea?

rule #2 would allow anybody with gang affiliations to be blocked from buying a gun- if a 16 year old kid gets arrested for gang activity, they could be barred from buying weapons for life. sure they could go to the black market, but if permits and background checks were required FOR ALL GUNS and penalties for selling them illegally were WAY WORSE, those guns would be WAY TO EXPENSIVE.

the soccer mom comment is just BS- it sounds like someone with an understanding of how democracy and government are meant to work wrote it.

i have inside info- the writer is a man, who doesn't play or watch soccer, except US women's world cup
