(9,774 posts)was there a fiscal cliff agreement and a bill signed into law by Obama? Damn, I'm sick one day and missed that.

(9,774 posts)that as part of the Presidents proposals, he would make sure that the most vulnerable were exempted out from this change.

(2,642 posts)They are, by it's very definition, on a fixed income.
If prices rise, and inflation continues, and the wizards of smart who determine the CPI cheat, then who suffers?
Everyone, no matter how well off they are get SS benefits.
Whisp
(24,096 posts)so stick your hair on fire under the tap. It's all for naught.

(2,642 posts)Then what? This is exactly what they want?
This is the camel's nose.
They get this, then they demoralize the president's base and use it against him in 2014.

(24,096 posts)lol.
I'm sure the Hamshers and ilk will do all they can to sow seeds of discontent and blatant lies to fuck up '14 - they've already started.

(3,539 posts)Just what kind of peoples advocate the team of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan would have made?
Face it Romney serves one master, the 1%.
Teapublicans in congress serve one master, the 1%.
47% of the voters unknowingly served that same 1%.
If you must think of Obama as the lesser of two evils then consider how any safety net 'negotiations' would have been handled by Romney.

(2,642 posts)I voted for President Barack Obama.
I did not expect to get stabbed in the back and THEN shit on.
At least with Rmoney I knew I was going to get shit on and could have gotten a raincoat.

(24,096 posts)you worked so hard for the screwer. fool you once! hahaha, what a joke you said.
JimDandy
(7,318 posts)I invested a lot of personal time on him right up to 7:02 election night, though - no small thing - and a lot of time persuading center repubs in my extended family (who lived in a swing county in the all important swing state of CO) to vote for him, which they did. My arguments were based on the flip-flopping of an untrustworthy Romney and Obama's stance that there would be no cuts to Medicare and Social Security. I've already gotten an earful about Obama's new position today from one of them who depends on Social Security and Medicare.
So really, it was a cruel joke on them and all the other poor pensioners in the USA. And CRUEL jokes are never funny.
Vouching for someone, whether it's for employment purposes, loans or politics is no small thing and when the vouchee fails to come through, you lose the trust of that individual you persuade to come around to your position. Trust counts for a lot to me - apparently not so much for Obama.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)President Obama is not set to hurt anyone. Just as he's found $716 BILLION in savings in Medicare to extend it's solvency, and just like he used ObamaCares to expand Medicaid, he'll do the same with social security because at this moment, it's capped at about $110k per year and yet people like billionaire McCain collects social security, too. Do you think President Obama is focusing on trying to curb that maybe? And do you think McCain is one of the poor?
JimDandy
(7,318 posts)about removing or adjusting the cap upwards, something which I am all for. Did I miss something about that?
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)I asked you, has it crossed your mind that this might be what he's doing, considering how those "cuts" in Medicare and Medicaid turned out to strengthen, lengthen, and is the case with Medicaid expand accessibility, the programs and not destroy them.
I'm not very good at explaining things, but here's an article by an ex-DUer who is fed up with all the anti-Obama rhetoric here, and has an own blog. He explains this much better and easier-to-understand than I ever could, and he's written about the chained CPI back in 2011 during the debt ceiling debates.

(9,774 posts)according to Jay Carney as part of the Presidents proposals for changes to SS, he would make sure that the most vulnerable were exempted out from this change.
Indydem
(2,642 posts)He is not keeping his promises and you are too blind to see it.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)MR. CARNEY: -- part of his -- if I could please answer Sams question, Id appreciate it. And the President did include it in his counterproposal, his counteroffer, as part of this process, as part of the negotiation process. I would note that this is a technical change -- would be if instated -- to the way that economists calculate inflation, and it would affect every program that has -- that uses the CPI in its calculations. And so its not directed at one particular program; it would affect every program that uses CPI. There are also -- as part of the Presidents proposals, he would make sure that the most vulnerable were exempted out from this change.
On behalf of dennis4858, apology accepted.

(15,438 posts)Nobody's fucking over the 99%. Just more hyperbole by anti-Obamanites and it's getting really tiresome. His track record trumps your prejudice, by the way.
Why are you even on a Democratic MB if you're so hellbent into believing what the TeaBaggers are hellbent on believing about this Democratic president?

Will this president ever be good enough for people like you? Will he ever be given the benefit of the doubt even after all he's done to protect the social safety net? I don't think so.

(20,450 posts)the Republicans give him, Democrats will blame HIM first, not Republicans. I wonder why this is. I have my theories.
