(17,469 posts)I was asking for a source for the quote.
I have said all along that the Vichy Dems would sell us down the river after the election, and gotten a LOT of grief for having that opinion.

(9,463 posts)"Now keep in mind, I'm in that income category. I'd love to...you know...not...not pay as much in taxes."
Will you apologize in good faith?
Keep in mind, I have been an Obama supporter since his appearance at the 2004 Democratic convention. So I'm not saying this as an Obama hater.

(26,330 posts)I've heard him say similar things while making a larger point that his income bracket HAS to pay higher taxes.
thx

(20,136 posts)You left out everything he said before and after, which is that as much as he'd like to pay less in taxes (duh, everyone would in a perfect world), we cannot afford to do that if we are going to cut taxes for the middle class.

(9,463 posts)talking about that particular sentence. Also, I was posting as fast as I could and didn't actually hear what he said after.
I have found since joining DU that my reservations as a lurker about joining have been realized. There are just too many land mines in here.

(9,463 posts)I admit that when I heard him say that I immediately turned to post it while it was fresh in my mind and didn't hear anything for a few minutes after that. Just goes to show that no matter how careful I think I'm being to avoid conflict on here it's going to happen one way or another, even at my hands and even to the extent of being compared to Fox News, which I simply cannot bear.
I let down my guard simply by attempting to participate. Instead of making spontaneous comments I will now double- and triple-check myself or simply not comment at all. There are just too many landmines I'd prefer to avoid as I prefer a pleasant experience to one like this thread, which now I deeply regret.

Don't let it get you down. But, if you are going to quote folk, make sure you get the exact quote and the context, as it bolsters your argument.

(8,401 posts)... to those who felt betrayed by his putting Social Security and Medicare on the block. So in the context of the question he was answering, yes, it certainly DOES translate to SS/Medicare cuts!

(8,401 posts). . . it will be too fucking late. And the rationale the President proffered in response to a question about betraying his campaign promise not to touch Social Security is most certainly NOT my speculation. The offer he has put on the table to Boehner has been covered in the press,. and the President did not qualify those reports in the least. Open your eyes!

Obama has gone Crazy TV Lenny on us. The sound clip I keep hearing on NPR News has him proclaiming just how much he's willing to give away. He's gonna give away way more than most dems want to hear and what many repukes want to hear about. This is nuts. I think he may well be the republican he told us he was. He's further right on this issue than St. Ronnie for fuck's sake!
