I think the President was just fueling the fire there. Cuts to SS and Medicare of any sort will not pass the Senate, and I think he knows that. Of course, once the filibuster rules get changed, that's another story...

obstructionists. Its a shrewd move, the first offensive move going into 2014 to get the House back.

Obama's shown to the country that he's willing to act like an adult. When the teabaggers refuse to accept the offer, Obama's free to withdraw it, let the deadline pass, then when the GOP's twisting in the wind and begging for that old offer, he can give them the finger and give some stronger demands.
