a sincere question regarding getting rid of / selling your guns

i admit i don't understand the whole gun culture thing. i see a lot of people coming out saying they are selling their guns, or at least their "super shooters." so from my somewhat innocent / naive standpoint, i am wondering how giving / selling these guns to someone else helps the problem of too many assault weapons in the country. is there no way to simply destroy them? of course, i know they will just make more, but just wondering......

It is a mockery to see people getting pats on the head from posters for selling one gun for another. It's just a joke.

It makes no sense to simply exchange them for another weapon when someone else could add them to their arsenal. I inherited two primitive guns a long time ago and I keep them locked up, don't have any powder for them anyway, and would rather know they are not going to be used than sell them for much needed cash. I'll take the potential financial dive for the peace of mind that comes from knowing they are not in use... on any day. And it wouldn't matter what type of guns they are, guns are guns and if I can keep any existing guns out of "circulation" I'm good with that.

Unless there is a buy-back program that assures the actual destruction of the guns that are surrendered, it is a strawman's ploy.
