A modest suggestion regarding gun ownership.

All gun owners who want to purchase a gun must volunteer to work one weekend shift in a major Emergency Department every six months. This also apply to concealed carry licenses.

An alternative would be to spend a day watching videos of people brought into Emergency Departments with gun shot wounds. This might make gun owners appreciate the realities and consequences of gun ownership.
